Chuckie Guns get the Chop Saw

In a spasm of animism, State Police in Portland Maine are extracting revenge on the guns used by criminals.

Apparently believing that some objects are inherently evil, these "Chuckie" guns are being cut into pieces on chop saws rather than being auctioned off by police departments to raise money for law enforcement equipment. Victims families gather to watch the event. Guns, and revenue, are destroyed in a shower of dramatic meaningless sparks. The pieces are then tossed into a scrap heap. Meanwhile, the murderer responsible for the death of the victim will decide whether he would like green beans with his steak, or cole slaw with his fish that night.
Maine has no death penalty.... except for guns.

The mechanic is wearing latex gloves! I wonder if he is expecting blood to spurt out of the gun?

  2. Weird.

Like a ritual or an anti-gun church service.

    Zombies are everywhere.

I agree that it does seem a waste to destroy guns just because they were involved in a crime. I suspect that most "crime cuns" were posessed illegally when someone was arrested for an unrelated crime or posessed but not fired in the comission of a crime.

I can imagine that the family of a homicide victim would be horrified that the gun used would be sent back out into the world no matter who got it. Perhaps the victim's family could have the right of first refusal to purchase the gun for a nominal sum, maybe $50-100, before it was auctioned?

The article reported that the gun being cut up was caked in blood. I would be wearing latex gloves too.
