Ugly Gun Sunday

Up for examination this Sunday is the awesome five shot pistol grip shotgun. It's hard to believe some Bubba from Czechoslovakia built this thing from copper pipe, but what it more incredible is someone actually shot it.

It's a break open rig, and it appears to be a 12 gauge. The apparent cylinder is merely a reinforcement of the chambers. Each barrel has it's own firing pin. The real question is whether the thing fires one chamber at a time, or whether it has some sort of mechanism to select the firing pin that is struck by the coil spring hammer.

One thing is for certain........I would not want to fire all five rounds at once. Hell, I wouldn't want to have to fire the thing at all!

slightly steampunkish appeal... but I wouldn't want to be around it when it was fired either, much less pulling the trigger.

it doesn't take much to make a gun, does it?

  3. Looks like a Bubba's basement spin on a Nock volley gun. Seven barrels of blackpowder fun, good for a broken shoulder to any poor sucker who fired one. http://www.nmm.ac.uk/collections/nelson/viewObject.cfm?ID=AAA2519

I can't remember the title of that post apocalyptic movie where they used firearms like that... Anyone?

  8. It's amazing the shit people can cobble together sometimes to do each other in. If some the people put as much ingenuity into making a living as they do into homemade guns and blades, they probably wouldn't need the weapons in the first place.

  9. One of the Blackpowder enthusiansts' magazines, while trying to discover maximum charge info, tried using copper pipe as a minimum data point.

They discovered that it was very difficult to overcharge even a copper or a gas pipe barrel enough to burst it ... but if they added an obstruction even a fraction of an inch above the bullet, copper would burst immediately.

I suspect that the contraption pictured might actually be almost safe with trap loads and a clean set of barrels.

I think with that gun, the most important kind of shot would be of the Tetanus variety.

Yeah, and dirty barrels might result in dirty drawers!

  14. Now that's nice.
Down and dirty. This is why gun control is a joke. You can pound this thing out in a weekend in the basement and no will know.
I don't know if I'd trust the copper either, but shotguns are low pressure. Besides you could use black iron pipe and you'd be golden.

What's the difference between a Czech and an Appalachian? An Appalachian would have sold that thing for scrap and bought a cheap shotgun.
