I would find that statement incorrect, based solely upon his service in the military, and not counting his valiant efforts on behalf of the American Citizen.
Rest in peace Staff Sergeant, and thank-you for all you have done for us.
My opinion, however, is that Charlton Heston was indeed a Hero both in his real-life actions (President of the NRA) and in the roles he protrayed on the silver screen. He was right up there with Clark Gable, Jimmy Steward, John Wayne, and many others.
Charlton Heston said in an interview a few years ago that when the Producer of the Movie, "True Lies" with Arnold Schwartenagger (sp?) asked him, Charton Heston, to read for a bit part in the movie then in production, he asked why they wanted him in the movie. He said the producer looked at him and said something to the effect, "I need someone who would be plausable in the role as 'Intimidating' to Arnold..." Charlton Heston was a Hero!
I disagree Beth- Charlton Heston did have some shortcomings, but overall was a good man who tried to stand up for civil rights before it was trendy to do so as an actor. I was sad to see him go.
Even some of the more liberal media outlets have recognized that Heston marched with King and was very much in the forefront of King's movement. It also should be noted that in his support of the NRA he also supported the rights of Blacks, as many anti-gun laws were created to keep Blacks from obtaining guns as Blacks moved north to cities and states that offered jobs that weren't in the fields. I reserve the right to not publish ignorant ill-informed and filthy comments from vile cretins who have a four letter vocabulary. Further, anonymous comments with strong opinions and personal attacks may be rejected. If you want to voice a strong opinion, at least have the courage to sign your name to it. You don't even have to use your name, make something up so the next person can address your comment without confusion.
charlston heston was not a hero.
