I reserve the right to not publish ignorant ill-informed and filthy comments from vile cretins who have a four letter vocabulary. Further, anonymous comments with strong opinions and personal attacks may be rejected. If you want to voice a strong opinion, at least have the courage to sign your name to it. You don't even have to use your name, make something up so the next person can address your comment without confusion.
Lucky for me all my guns are locked in the dark safe where they can't see this because if they did, they'd barf up all their bullets.

The idea of putting a flag onto a firearm isn't a bad one, but this is that idea taken way too far. Perhaps colour-filled engraving? We have the technology.

ReplyDeleteI notice you share three of my passions, cycling, handguns, and the written word. Unfortunately I'm missing one of your other traits, computer savvyness. I've run into your blog several times this week and figured I'd try to contact you. This was the best I could figure out on that front.
Anyway, I've developed quite an interest in S&W 27's. I see that you too have some experience with them. I'm a teacher and a private bike mechanic so affording the weapons I desire can prove to be difficult. That said I do end up doing a bit of bartering. Do you have any 27's that you would be interested in trading for bicycles of any type? Do you know anyone who does? Any kids need bikes? I've got some old bikes, some new bikes, some road, some mountain. Even a few BMXers floating around. I've got enough bikes here to make sure that whoever may be interested would end up with the better end of the deal, I just need to find someone who could use, need, or appreciate what I do have to offer.

ReplyDeleteCan't help but wonder; how do you managed to find so many "ugly guns"? I could understand coming across one once a month or certainly once every two or three months but you seem to find one every week. How do you do that?

The good news is that it truly was an ugly gun to begin with. Certainly it's ugly, but is it really a ruination? I think not. It's just as displayable of a paperweight as it was when it left the Hi Point factory. [shrug]

Yes, well, this is a Hi-Point, which is the epitome of ugly straight out of the box. You could engrave naked Ali Larter on it and it would still be ugly.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a display piece. Who in their right mind would ever carry that gussied up pistol? Makes me think of lipstick on a pig (to use the old cliche).
I bet after the first round is fired, the slide will mess up all that purdy krylon.
Has to be a display piece. Would not look good after a bit of use.
I suppose we'll never know why the person who owns this did it, and hopefully this reenforces with folks that guns should be one of four colors:
Stainless, Blued, or Parkerized (in black or green)
On a seperate note, Hi-Points are heavy and eschew features that a more expensive gun has, but the one I had in .380 a few years ago was a nice doorway to much better work. Sort of like the Huffy I beat the living cheese out of back in 1989. Made me appreciate the nicer lugged Columbus and Reynolds tubesets that were in my future.
And for the record, mine was never a painted abomination. :)
