Color Change
Regular readers will note that I have made a color change to the titles, the links and the hover colors. I'm trying to make the blog a bit easier on the eyes. I've thought about ditching the black background and going with black on white, or perhaps dark grey on light grey, but doing so would jack with the layout/images excessively. I'm open for suggestions, fire away........

I reserve the right to not publish ignorant ill-informed and filthy comments from vile cretins who have a four letter vocabulary. Further, anonymous comments with strong opinions and personal attacks may be rejected. If you want to voice a strong opinion, at least have the courage to sign your name to it. You don't even have to use your name, make something up so the next person can address your comment without confusion.
Not sure about others but I like the evil black background. I usually check out your thoughts before the sun comes up & it's very easy on the eyes.

ReplyDeleteWhite on black is the easiest color scheme on the eye. It gives the best contrast ratio of any combination, and the human eye can detect a single white pixel on a black background easier than it can detect a single black pixel on a white background. The next best is amber on black, followed by red on black. red in fact is the color that the human eye is most sensitive to.
ReplyDeleteI can't take the white on black. When I visit your site I hit Ctrl-A to inverse the colors. A pain, but necessary to cut back the eye strain.

I'd read your writing regardless of the colour, but I like the light colours on black scheme you've got. Jim

Really, leave it the way it is, please. Another site I go to uses the same kind of layout for their articles, and I agree with their explanation for it 100%:

I already keep my monitor at the dimmest possible level, even with your site the way it is now. In fact, I don't like much coming to the comment page because its black on white - blech!
Seriously, can you tell I wish ALL site were set up the same way as yours? Don't change a thing.
I'd also like to cast my vote for holding the dark background. I always find it easier on the eyes to have a dark background and a light foreground. If you do a little research, you'll find that dark/light is ergonomically superior to light/dark when reading on-screen, as opposed to the reverse when reading from the printed page. It's an interesting research project.
ReplyDeleteI always believe the blogger gets to set things up to suit him/herself, and I'll just adapt. Long ago I found a site with bits of javascript to do things like change the color scheme, and I use that where necessary.

ReplyDeleteI'm having a hard time distinguishing the colors white and the new light yellow.
Example:"Internet Explorer is one big juicy target for cyberthugs. Switching to another web browser such as Opera or Firefox lowers your profile and makes you less of a target."
"Opera" and "Firefox" blend in together making it difficult to separate the sites you want us to go too from the regular text.
Otherwise this site is the greatest.

ReplyDeletePLEASE, leave it the way it is, I can't take the black on white so many computers use. It's blinding on a flat screen in the dark.

ReplyDeleteWhite on black is a personal favorite. Lightly-colored backgrounds are like staring at a lightbulb, like some people above mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI must cast my vote for leaving the background black with white text. It's easier at night and when using a laptop in a sunny room.

ReplyDeleteThe cream color for the titles looks very nice as well. The cream color for the links is not so grerat, it's hard to distinguish the links from regular test.
Whatever you do, don't go with a low contrast between text and background. I'd rather see you adopt the overdone Matrix motif then that hard to read dark gray on light gray.

ReplyDeletePlease leave the black background, it is so much easier on the eyes. My only request would be to make the font of your articles bigger, so they are easier on the eyes, also.
Gotta tell ya - other than that, everything else is "DY-NO-MITE" here!

When I read your blog, I always use the bit of Java script that changes it to black-on-white in Firefox.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise it's Eyestrain City.
If the white of a web page is too bright, I think reducing the screen brightness is the cure, not a dark background.
