To the Editor:
A few days before Christmas, a friend of mine made a purchase from a very well known local fire arms dealer - walked in with cash in hand and walked out with a pistol a few minutes later.
No check was made to see if my friend could legally purchase a firearm.
The fact is, my friend suffered from severe depression and if a background check had been made, the dealer would have seen that a block from buying firearms had been placed on this person.
After leaving the store, my friend went home and committed suicide with the newly purchased pistol. The police found the receipt for it on the dining room table.
This brings up some very real concerns for all of us.

It would be nice to have a few facts to verify your story Miss Bearb. You are making some serious accusations on the record. How about a name for the deceased and a name for the gun dealer? Until you are willing to supply those, your story smells like methane impregnated bovine byproducts.

And there's the fact the NICS doesn't check for depression anyway

A suicidal person is going to find a way to do it regardless of whether someone sells them a gun.
Question for the author: where were you if this was a dear friend? Perhaps the friend should have been under observation in a facility?
Stop picking the low-hanging fruit that absolve you of blame.
(Note: I'm not blaming the writer though. There's only one person to 'blame' for suicide.)
Yeah, That's bullshit!
Crap from the crapapple tree.
