Louisiana House Bill 89 Approved Unanimously

A bill that would expand the legal justification for using deadly force against intruders was approved unanimously by the House.

House Bill 89 says there will be a presumption that the use of force is necessary if a person in "a dwelling, place of business, or motor vehicle" wants to stop an intruder. With this provision, prosecutors would have to present evidence that rebuts that presumption. Some conditions must be met. The intruder has to be "in the process" of unlawfully and forcibly entering or has already unlawfully entered. Also, the person must have reason to believe that an unlawful entry was occurring. People using force must be in a place they have a right to be and must not be committing a crime.

The bill by Rep. Eric LaFleur, D-Ville Platte, goes next to the Senate.

I didn't know thay were voting on that this week?! I'm glad it passed. Now the senate needs to pass the "ani-gun confiscation" bill.

Time to email the senators.
