Ready to be Pissed?
Woman dies after son calls 911; dispatchers think it's a prank(Detroit, April 6, 2006, 11:00 P.M.) An investigation is underway in Detroit after a six-year-old boy called 911 to get help for his mom, and the operator acted as if it were a joke.
Detroit NBC Affiliate WDIV reports that six-year-old Robert Turner called 911 on February 20. He thought his mother 46-year-old Sherrill Turner had passed out. She was later found dead. 911 tapes detail the call, where the boy tells a female operator that his mom had passed out. The operator demands to speak to an adult before sending police.
The boy eventually hung up and called back a short time later. This time the same operator warns the boy that he could get in trouble for making a prank call to 911. Taylor says police didn't arrive until three hours later and found his mother dead. The family is now pursuing a lawsuit. Detroit police are investigating and say they are not sure about what, if any, disciplinary will be taken against the 911 operator.

There has to be some sort of felony committed here and the operator has demostrated that they are unable to adequately perform that function.

I am glad to hear that the family is pursuing legal action. They need to sue that 911 dispatcher for every penny she has. She needs to be fired for causing that child's mother to die and leave him motherless. If she thought it was a prank - send the freaking cops there and cite the parents of the kid.
I'm so pissed... what the hell was she thinking? duh?? if the adult can't come to the phone then obviously there is a problem. Her ass should be fired on the spot and further more sued. I hope they sue the hell out of her and the 911 office that did'nt fire her ass. Bunch of FN idiots running that place!

I cannot believe on the Detroit Free Press site (freep.com) they have a link to post your comments if the operator should be fired and a Detroit 911 operator and a Detroit Cop posted and they blamed the (are ya ready) ...the dead MOM cuz she should have taught her kid to phone an adult! and the kid who they claim did not speak properly to be understood!!!! HE IS 5!! I was so pissed when I read that, that they are placing ANY blame on that family..she did teach her kid to call 911!!! he was clear.."My mom is passed out"!!! Bet Detroit and its corrupt Mayor get out of this one too..what a damn shame, someone should "nationally" make this kid a hero and the make public the operator's identity who is a total ZERO!! and let her live with her shame nationally, while little Robert lives without his mother for the rest of his life!!
Well if anything this has taught me that I am not going to rely on 911 to fix anything. I am going to teach my daughter to go next door, call anyone else but not 911 this is unbelievable. I thought thta they were supposed to be the ones that were put here to protect us and that all. This is horriable and that child will never have a second chance to do this over. I hope that woman on the phone gets the worse punishment possable. This is disturbing.
