I saw that in last the Onion last week. I realize the Jim Kelly cartoons are supposed to be mockeries (sp?) of right-wing jingoism, but this one was great.

I'm a supporter of the 2nd, but I have to say that after years of working around teachers, there are some that no amount of training could help.

Then again, I've know plenty that could responsibly carry also.

Get about 30 2nd or 3rd graders with pencils and the sicko will have no chance whatsoever. Oh, wait - that might mean the school could be sued. As in, no more dodge ball, flag football, or "tag" in most of our schools. Sheeple.

OldeForce Who's in a particularly nasty, cranky mood today. Too many polictical ads on TV, when they're not running drug ads for things I really don't want to know about.

Obviously that's exaggerated, but in my public schooling (late 70's thru 80's) in Northern Arizona, there were guns in school...sort of..

there was elements and teachings of responsible gun ownership as well as the normalization of it all along with the whole sportman thing. I recall my 6th grade teacher talking about gun safety as even he had an ND and had a casual talk about it (since he knew a lot of families had guns).

my grade school principle dressed up like poncho villa and shot off some theatrical blanks up in the air at an assembly. we loved . They were real SA 6 guns and real gun loud too.

And the last thing I can think of is that they used to hold hunter-ed in the Jr. High. At least a 100 people would show up every year too. Why not? They had nice classrooms already set to be used.

Common sense just isn't so common anymore. Bad guys prey on the weak and defenseless.
