Idiots With Guns #67

The purpose of Idiots with Guns is not to humiliate, but to educate. Over the years we have seen photos of people who, upon picking up a gun, just cannot resist pointing it at something they should not, with their finger on the trigger. This is usually the camera, another person, or themselves. These photos are often difficult to google up, because of the pages they are shown on. If you have archived any of these photos, feel free to send them in to bayouroversATjamDOTrrDOTcom

The Four Rules
1. All firearms are always loaded
2. Never let the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you are not willing to destroy
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
4. Be sure of your target and what is behind it

You can get a liver replaced, a lung replaced, a heart replaced. You can have your leg, arm, and even hand reattached.

When your eye is damaged severely, nothing can be done.

As a paintballer, I've seen stuff like this almost happen all the time. Unfortunately the attitude of the players lately has been to ignore it. I'm the guy who yells "Mask down!" or "Barrel plug!" at 8 year olds (and 33 year olds...).

"Gee, honey, Johnny is such a lay about, let's get him something to take him outside!"

"I know, let's get him one of those paintgun thingies! They aren't like real guns, they are just toys!"

Parents who wouldn't think of owning a gun but let their child have something that fires any sort of projectile without teaching the Four Rules are not living up to their responsibility.

I....you....he....is this real? I can't tell if they staged this or not, but that really isn't the point. This is an utter travesty. Paintball has very specialized eye and face protection associated with it. I am a player and I know these masks all too well. Sometimes they are uncomfortable, and there is a real temptation to not wear them when not "playing," say when you are just shooting at soda-pop cans sitting on a log.

It is important to not give into such temptation, safety is the name of the game after all. Sure, you often walk away with a few welts, and almost certainly some light bruises; but there is NEVER any excuse for walking away from a game sans one eyeball. You only get two, and its best to take care of them, 'cuz you'll miss them when they are gone.

That being said, this looks a bit trumped up, with the kid taking a face full of carbon dioxide, still incredibly stupid, as what if there had been some debris down that .68 caliber barrel? Also, it seems odd to have been videotaping the activity seen here. Either way, just...wow.

I think I have found this years Darwin Award winner.

The shocking part is I think there was an adult with him. The adult should have never of let the kid look down the barrel of a weapon that fires a projectile. Even if it is "just" a paintball gun. I hope that kid is okay, and learned a lesson out of it.

I don't see any "splat" from a ball, and maybe he did shut his eyes, but the fact remains he pointed a projectile launching piece of equipment at his face and squeezed the trigger. Not the brightest move by far. Even if it was just a burst of CO2, isn't there the possibility of potential damage from the sudden cold air blown into the eyes? I know I've had paintball barrels freeze from the CO2.

didnt see a splat from the ball hit and he casually put down the marker after the 'accident' rather than drop it in reaction
