22s at the Range
People often question the wisdom of buying a .22 handgun. I question the wisdom of not doing so. Some people shy away from spending too much on "just a twenty-two". Nonsense. Why skimp on a handgun that you will shoot more than any other? I tend to
The .22 handgun is perfect for learning and reinforcing the fundementals of marksmanship. The ammo is cheap, and the recoil is negligible. The accuracy of a fine .22 handgun is precise. Plus, they are a hell of a lot of fun.

I just bought my first MKIII the other day after renting one at the range. Now, I'm going crazy waiting for the call that says I can actually go pick it up!
Oh, how sweet a shooter, the Ruger MKIII...
You have some nice ones, I am envious. You did leave out the 22 mag which is my favorite, I had an older well functioning taurus 941 I taught my daughter to shoot with, I gave it to her when she turned 21.
What? No Buckmark?. I enjoy a day at the range in the same way. Sometimes I leave the pistols home and bring the rifles instead. Those days are right around the corner with the arrival of some warmer weather. Thanks for reminding me.
There's at least a whole day's worth of shooting in that image. Nice "accumulation".
Were all those pistols and revolvers pointed in a safe direction when you took that photo?
I agree with you completely, it is by far the best practic and hunting round created. It is all that you said and more.
I perfere Brownings now, but that MkII in blue is real nice, love the two tone grips on it.
Happy memories. My Mk1 and my mother's woodsman went into the furnace to: "make Britain a safer place" (TM).
I was along the lines of the "why buy a .22 handgun?" crowd for a long time.
I could see the purpose of the rifle, but not so much the handgun.
And then I bought a Beretta Jaguar.
That thing is about as fun of a gun to shoot as I have ever had.....
xavier,
any thoughts on a good .22 revolver?
my newest addition to my .22 outings, .22 remington 512 with 4 power weaver, single shot .17 New England firearms with 9-24 power scope, .22 Ruger Mk III with 2 power scope & my piece de resistance a K-150XXX masterpiece with open sights .22 pistol makes for a perfect afternoon @ the range.
the .17 is fun

Oldforce, wot u want to clean the barrel for?
A length of that plastic ribon thats used for packing makes a good tool to get the mainspring housing to come out, but it's still a pain, and more of a pain to get back.
some cotton buds dampened with solvent and a childs toothbrush are pretty good for getting the crud out of the action between full clean outs, and when the bolt gets sticky.
Hope that helps
Keith
.22 is the only handgun caliber one without LE background can easily shoot here in Russia. I've found a local police sporting range in Moscow, that allows any person with clean psycho\legal history in, but the only gun they allow to us is a .22 Margolin training pistol. That's actually not a problem, because Margolin is a nice peace of machinery, it's easy to shoot and it allows decent accuracy after a very short training. Almost no recoil and adjustable sights do the trick.
