Illinois State Police Recommendations

Tam has done a superb job answering the Illinois State Police recommendations for women's self defense. I guess we should all listen to their recommendations. After all, they are profeshinulls. They recommend:
Articles common to your handbag that make useful defense weapons.

nail file
rat tail comb
teasing brush
pens and pencils
keys
anything rigid

Ok, I can go along with that "anything rigid" idea.........

The ISP goes further to recommend:
Concentrate on these areas only when combating an assailant.

groin
eyes
ears
nose
throat

I would add COM will do just fine, thank you.

To be fair, you can't legally carry in Illinois, so the ISP can't recommend a handgun. That said, their suggestions are so ridiculous that I'm at a loss for words. As if a set of keys is gonna help you fight off a rapist.

I wonder why they don't encourage some kind of chemical spray or stun gun at least. I'd rather have that than a stupid comb.

If these items are so effective at deterring an attack, why don't the illinois State Police use them instead of "evil" guns?

Remember the "firestorm" of e-mails after the Jim Zumbo meltdown? It's time to e-mail the politicians in Illinois, to change their laws and allow people to protect themselves. It's hard to believe; and a little sad, that these are the options available for women, or anyone else! Join me in e-mailing the NRA, or the Illinois legislature (using the Illinois State Police website) to change this ridiculous law, lives belong to people...not Government.
