Idiots With Guns # 71

The makers of this video discuss it here.

The purpose of Idiots with Guns is not to humiliate, but to educate by promoting civil discourse about firearms safety. Every gun owner has seen people who, upon picking up a gun, just cannot resist pointing it at something they should not, with their finger on the trigger. Whether done through ignorance or absent mindedness, the results of these actions can be tragic. Many photos of guns being used dangerously are available on the internet. It is my hope that Idiots With Guns will transform these photos from dangerous examples of improper gun handling to the stimulus for discussion that promotes gun safety.

The Four Rules

1. All firearms are always loaded

2. Never let the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you are not willing to destroy

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot

4. Be sure of your target and what is behind it

To quote the person who uploaded the video...

"2 boys having fun with two guns/pistols. Shooting a la First Person, Tomb Raider , Rushing, Copstyle and GhettoStyle and tips how to..."

I have still not discharged a single arm to this date, but I sure as hell would not want any tips from these folks.

Youtube must have been out, but I can see it now.

*sigh* These guys are just looking for a Darwin Award arent't they?

I agree with Patrick, I can do just fine without any tips from these clowns. The worst part of it too is that they refuse to listen to reason and got so defensive and insulting.

hey, found your site. Pretty sweet, the second site that discusses our vid. Thought i mite join the teaparty.

well, first of this vid was meant to entertain, not to shock.
I suggest someone in hollywood should make a horrorfilm about us, since you guys are so terrifyed by our movie. (last threads name: Oh So Terrifying!!)

And yuri orlov, a Darwin Award would be nice

Sorry to get in on this one so late...

Minus some of the obvious safety concerns, are folks upset about the actual "content" of the vid?

It seems a bit obsessive in some ways, but in others it looks like the guys were trying to be theatrical more than anything else. Certainly nothing they were doing was more or less idiotic than the movies they were mimicking.

I, as well, have taken "first person" videos, and have set up a camera down range to videotape the effect and view from that perspective. More of a general interest thing than anything else. It may be strange to some, but it hardly rates as "inherently unsafe" anymore than running around an IDPA scenario with a loaded pistol in hand.

You just said it Sean. And by the way I love your label dropdownstairs... It inspires me to do even more tombraider actions. I bet 99% of you people that comment on a negative way has never seen a real gun in life. So write a negative comment and stick it up your ass next time.

No Sean,
Apparently you don't understand...
For the sake of all of us who share your apparent love of firearms and 2nd Amendment exercise please take it in the spirit intended -- sure it feels like eating a little crow but we'll all be better off if you do a little honest self evaluation after re-reading the 4 rules of firearms handling.

2 key words for you:
Muzzle discipline

2 more words for you:
Trigger discipline.

You need a dose of both. I'd leave the range if I was the guy in the next lane over (not) while you're releasing the slide on a loaded weapon, with finger on the trigger and muzzle not pointed downrange.

the stakes are too high to not be anal about safety/handling basics.

cheers,
dw

Just to clarify a few things...

I did not watch the entire video, as it was getting boring after a bit. SO I "jumped" ahead to see what the middle and finish looked like. I saw one "scene" where an individual produced a wallet and then a gun, pointed at camera. That was about all I "saw" that was not what amounted to playing around at the range, with some loose (at best) gun handling. Having not watched the entire "movie", I cannot comment one way or the other about any blatant safety concerns on a "known" loaded firearm (as opposed to a hopefully unloaded one being pointed at an unmanned camera, noted above).

All of that to put into context my question, in are people more concerned about the content, than the method.

Personally, it makes little sense for "us" to condemn "you" for making a little movie full of silly "gun action", if "we" are not going to condemn every movie of the same (and there are plenty). Your "youtube movie" will have very little impact or viewership compared to the dozens of movies you "copy" so well.

I can think of quite a few well known gun personages who use similar "first person" camera angles and "down range" camera shots, and Todd Jarret being one that most "here" will be familiar. And a few well known gun bloggers do so occasionally, myself included. So your use of the same, assuming safety precautions are followed, may not be within the sensibilities of some more sensitive gun owners, but it is not out of the realm of what is out there by many well known by "us".

I can only assume, via comments by those who watched the entire video, that you broke some rules of safety. Obviously and blatant. For that, you deserve a bit of a reality check.

I support your artistic right to make silly, trite, bombastic, or inane "gun movies", no matter how much they might frighten the public, as long as you follow the safety rules in doing the same.

I kept expecting to see the guns jump right out of their hands. Looked like 5 year olds trying to shoot .44 Magnums. Stick with airsoft kiddies before you get arrested for reckless endangerment.
