One Smith & Wesson revolver I am still looking for is a M&P snubbie. A two incher with a round butt, and a half moon front sight.
At one time, these fine carry pieces apparently cost all of $55. Heck, for that kind of money, I would buy twenty and then another twenty next pay day!
I have several Model 10 snubs, but the M&P snub seems to be as unusual as turtle teeth around here. When I finally do find a Military & Police snub, I hope it will be finish worn, so I will consider it for carry.

ReplyDeleteIt letters as follows: Military & Police Pre-Model 10, shipped March 14, 1949, to a hardware store in Long Beach, CA.
It is a TACKDRIVER.
Of course, since it is a chunk of steel, there's basically no felt recoil and very little even with +p rounds.
Mine came with a very worn black basketweave belt holster.
The gun itself has some scratches, but the finish is at least 85%, no rust, no pitting, clean bright bore, excellent rifling, and no looseness in any of its moving parts--tight lock-up.
Seems to have been carried a lot and shot little.
I couldn't be happier with it unless it were twins.
Paid $250.00, plus tax and fees last year.
Awesome weapon.

A nice gun if you can find one. Do you plan on using it for self-defense or merely collecting? If for the former, as you are undoubtedly well aware, the gun is not "+P" rated. Whis brings me to my next question. I've reviewed your "favorite articles" list. I see no discussion on the merits or lack of merit of so-called "+P" rated ammo. Is it there somewhere and I missed it, or is this a topic you have not written about? I ask only because I am always interested in what the other guy's opinion is about ammo and it's effectiveness, i.e., it's "stopping power" (ugh! I hate to say that). Thanks for your response.

ReplyDeleteI have not written any articles about terminal ballistics. I simply do not think I know enough on the subject to offer any new information.
Don't want to start a whole debate on "stopping power", but just a few thoughts:
ReplyDeleteAny calibre is better than no gun
a gun you can hit with is better than one you can't hit with
is the critter on the receiving end going to have a close look at the size of the bore before proceeding or running?
is the critter then going to ask "you using +P? and are those hollow points in there?" ?
Is the critter going to risk the serious and potentially fatal wound of any gun shot injury?
Is having the critter pause while it thinks "Shit, that b****** just shot ME in MY chest" going to be useful to you or not?
