Jodie Foster on Guns

"Here's my commentary: I don't believe that any gun should be in the hand of a thinking, feeling, breathing human being. Americans are by nature filled with rage-slash-fear. And guns are a huge part of our culture. I know I'm crazy because I'm only supposed to say that in Europe."
Jodie Foster

Nice. I believe this is what psychiatrists call projection. Even though Jodie is a pretty good actress.....Her bias against guns and Americans is crystal clear. Perhaps she is so filled with "rage-slash-fear" that she should not handle guns, but that is obviously not the case for many "thinking, feeling, breathing" Americans who own and use guns responsibly.

Jodie's gun handling is examined by Breda.

Knowing she is anti-gun, I've been wondering what the angle will be on that new movie of hers that just came out yesterday. I want to see it because I love looking at her and she's an amazing actress, but I'm sort of cringing at the possibilities...

Jodie is somewhat on the right path, but has come to the wrong conclusion. Logical thinking can be such a quagmire for Liberals…

Unlike Europeans, most Americans (that is to say, those not living behind Liberal lines) still have the right AND the means for self defense. They are THINKING about the future and planning accordingly by, for example, purchasing appropriate insurance, wearing their seatbelts, installing CO detectors near their furnace, installing smoke alarms throughout their homes, paying for monitored alarm systems, purchasing fire extinguishers, giving their girlfriends pepper spray and practicing with it, memorizing their favorite lawyer’s phone number, staying out of well-known trouble spots, avoiding confrontation by being polite, and keeping loaded guns at HAND and practicing with them. They do this, because they FEEL that it is their right and duty to protect themselves, their family and their friends in an uncertain world. So that they, their family and friends may continue to BREATHE and not have their worldly possessions taken from them unlawfully. GUNS ARE A HUGE PART OF OUR CULTURE because they level the playing field, making the weak, the old, the female, the frail, the disabled, and the outnumbered able to stand up against those who are so filled with RAGE-SLASH-FEAR and a disregard for the rule of law that they would use their brute physical power and their numbers to do harm. It is easy to advocate making other thinking, feeling, breathing people defenseless if you know your fame and persnoal bodyguard will always protect you. It’s quite different if you are confronted in some supposedly safe, Liberal corner of EUROPE by five misguided muslim immigrant offspring who have decided tonight is going to be your night to be in the wrong place at the wrong time….. And, by the way, Ms. Foster, the traditional muslim punishment for homosexuality is for the “perpetrator” to be thrown from the highest building in town. Just so you know. Happy travels.

I really hate it when actors feel the need to lay their beliefs on us. Someone lied to them and told them that their opinion matters.

It matters more than it should to a lot of people. Like all the people who are going to vote for Fred Tompson because he "Kicked ass in 'The Hunt for Red October'".

Sad.

Jodie Foster has been in a few gun movies for a gal who dislikes guns. Seen Taxi Driver or Silence of the Lambs? I was actually turned on when she handled the S&W as 'Agent Starling.'

I read that quote of hers when it first came out.

Damnit, I had really been looking forward to seeing her newest movie after the first ad for it.

I lost the need to see any of her movies after that.

People are only as important as how they live their lives. A football player with wisdom is infinitely "more important" than a scientist or politician whose ideas are not in accord with reality.

Xavier - have you seen the movie poster for The Brave One? Breaks each and every one of The Four Rules.

I was so annoyed by it I had to blog about it myself.

My sentiments are the same as everyone here. I cannot for the life of me understand why Americans give a damn about the political opinions of a famed actor. It's like asking the local shade tree mechanic for medical advice.

I very well may vote for Fred Thompson, Sterno, but it won't be because he "kicked ass in The Hunt for Red October. His education, legal and legislative experience clearly qualifies him for the job. Being decidedly conservative helps his cause as well.

The same people who give a rat's ass about what Jodie Foster thinks about guns are the same people who get their evening news from John Stewart, Jay Leno or David Letterman. Sadly, it's a significant portion of "Generation X'ers."

The movie " The brave one" shows exactly why a person would need a gun.
It also shows what happens when someone wants to buy a gun for protection and has to get "permission" from the government.
I wonder why a outspoken anti gun person would choose to make a movie that clearly re-enforces the need for people to have self protection and identifies infringements on that.

Cause she got PAID, that's why! And therein lies the conundrum. All morals, scruples and stances are for sale by the Hollywood elite....anything for the right price. Yet we still listen to these jackasses.

There are some people that just don't get it. There are some people that go around permanently scared. Its really tough when you are both Ignorant/scared at the same time.

I live in a trailer in Iraq that could get shelled at any time. I am lucky, some folks don't even get a trailer.

If Jodie Foster was HONESTLY opposed to any American holding a gun, she would not make movies where she holds guns, and we could at least respect her for saying what she means. As it stands, Ms. Foster's statement should really say, "I am opposed to Americans holding guns, unless they are being paid a lot of money to do so."
