Damned Right David........
One well placed JHP beats a lifetime of kicking and yelping on a mat.
Mindset is vital. It is the foundation of self defense.
A gun helps augment one's mindset.

The Four Rules
1. All firearms are always loaded
2. Never let the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you are not willing to destroy
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
4. Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it
The Five Rules of Concealed Carry
1. Your concealed handgun is for protection of life only.
2. Know exactly when you can use your gun.
3. If you can run away -- RUN!
4. Display your gun, be prepared to go to jail.
5. Don't let your emotions get the best of you.

A gun might have been taken away from her and he would use it on someone else.
I'm sure that Rapist hope every woman shares beth's opinion.
To Beth,
It seems to me you are saying that we should not use tools to fight back, as those tools may be removed from our possession and used in a we we did not intend. Frankly, given the nature of this particular website, you sound like a troll, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and argue with you as if you seriously meant what you wrote.
Reality check: human beings are tool users, that is our specific adaptation to the world in which we live. We have no pronounced canine teeth with which to bite, and no claws of which to speak. Nor are we equipped with bony plates, or even any real protrusions of any kind to keep us safe from the world's many and varied organic assailants. We do not need them, as we can manufacture artifacts which emulate and even improve upon nature's various forms and functions. To the end of survival in a harsh, cruel world we developed the firearm. One such as you may believe that this, in its self, is a bad thing as it must take a terrible person to invent something designed specifically to injure or kill. In response to your apparent attitude, I submit that to go unarmed is actually against the natural order of things. Even nature' cutest, cuddliest, most tourist-photograph-inducingist creatures are endowed with pretty wicked means of defending themselves from attackers. Think of those adorable little frogs that produce venom, or the claws on the giant panda.
My point is, that we use weapons to defend ourselves from predators, and to suggest that we do not as the plan may backfire is ludicrous, perhaps you would be happier if nobody that anyone else has ever intended to rape ever fought back using a weapon, because it might be dangerous. You know what else is dangerous? GETTING MURDERED OR RAPED!
That was my attempt at a well-thought-out and serious response. The following is my initial-thought-smart-alecky response: Not if she shot the bastard first......
Thanks for taking the time to read this rant that got out of control.

P.S. If anybody wants to take this discussion elsewhere, I don't give out any personal contact info, but I'd be glad to find a forum to use.
Beth - so your solution is a person shouldn't have a gun at all? Because of the potentiality of getting it taken away and used later? While the gun might have been taken away from her, it might have allowed her to live, too.
Xav, while I agree with you that the mindset would most likely be changed had she been carrying (BTW, which would have been illegal where she was), she was a very accomplished martial artist and most likely already had a mindset that was disarmed.
That's right, Beth, suck up some more of that societal BS that says women are incompetent to use a simple machine with no more than four controls effectively. A car has over twenty, and we seem to do just fine.
That kind of helpless attitude disgusts me. I have guns, I train, I practice, and in force-on-force, NOBODY gets my gun away from me.
When the fit hits the shan, the ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE YOU IS YOU.
I know. Back when I was stupid and believed the police would protect me, I was raped.
"A gun might have been taken away from her and he would use it on someone else." -Beth
Or it might have saved her life.
"A gun might have been taken away from her and he would use it on someone else."
Can you give even one example of this scenario?
