Lightweights

I realized today that my last three 1911 purchases have been lightweights. I now own a lightweight 1911 in each basic size. Each one is made by a different manufacturer.

I carry them all though, and they are nice to tote.

Smith & Wesson 1911PD
Kimber Pro Carry
Colt New Agent

Weird.........

  1. Not so surprising, really. They are lighter and more comfortable to carry. An all-steel Government Model is a heavy piece of hardware. I still prefer to shoot the all-steel guns.

    Xavier,
I've been looking at lightweight officer's models.

Just from looking at Gunbroker, it seems all the LW's are Series 80's.

Did Colt ever make a LW Series 70 Officer?

    Any other manufacturer make one?

    Thanks,
    Rick

  3. My Springfield Armory Full Size Lightweight Loaded feels discriminated against.

  4. The ain't nothing wierd about it. I love the 1911. Though the fact that they're all lightweight is weird for me as I've never even seen one.

  5. I think Kimber did Rick.....in a Series One too! Not certain though. I don't think Colt did.

I don't think Kimber ever made a proper "officer" model. Proper being defined as 3.5" barel with bushing.

The closest would be a Series I Ultra Carry, which has an officer size lightweight frame but a 3" bull barrel upper. Which just so happens to be by normal carry piece.
