Killer Corgi

One of the Obedience Class instructors described the Pembroke Welsh Corgi as a German Shepherd with short legs.

Apt.

Darla makes certain all her humans stay on schedule, she refuses to come back in the house without a fanfare on the harmonica (and then comes charging in barking ferociously), and she utterly dominates a German Shepherd three times her size.

True, indeed. I've always called my Corgi a mini German Shepherd - he even has a similar-colored black and brown coat.

He loves playing with much larger dogs. My favorite was watching him play a one-sided game of tug-of-war with a huge St. Bernard. My guy was going crazy trying to get her to give up some ground - the St. didn't budge and just stood there, but it was funny to watch and he got an 'A' for effort.

Love the photo. :)

The instructor actually has a really good point. Having bred as a herding dog just like German Shepherds were, the Corgi does indeed have quite a lot in common with the Shepherd in terms of temperament.

It's just that people view them as cute and docile because they're small and adorable, whereas most people find Shepherds to be large and intimidating, especially the sable or darker colored ones.
