Directive from the Commandant

In a message to all Marines worldwide, the Commandant recently informed his troops that Marines were to cease and desist from using the age old term "Squid" to refer to members of the US Navy.

"Use of this word to refer to a member of the Navy is totally inappropriate," the Commandant said.

"According to Webster's Dictionary," the Commandant's message continues, "Squid is defined as 'a higher form of marine life.' Obviously, we must hide the truth when referring to Sailors."

They finally figured it out.

Observe Memorial Day. The squids, jarheads, grunts, airheads and puddle pilots deserve it.

Squid, A creature that hides in the dark and beats hell out of marine life forms. Yup proud to be called a squid. Thank you for your service sir. We never served together but we probably peed in some of the same saltwater. Rey B FC1 (USN ret.)

Gotta love them jarheads, even if you're an old squid like me.

The squid in the photograph looks exactly like my late father.

Were I to look in a mirror while wearing the uniform Uncle Sugar issued to me fifty-three years ago, I would see the man in that photograph.

Cryminently, was there something in the chow that makes us look alike in old age?

Or is it just a squid thing?
