The X
"As they walked from the business toward their Chevrolet Tahoe vehicle, Katherine, who was carrying the night deposit from Catfish King, observed a male suspect running toward her from the wood line at the back corner of the property," an arrest affidavit stated. "She heard the suspect yell something, but she did not understand what he said."The good guys don't always come out ahead. Go here for the story. More later.....

Thank God I live in Texas.
Thank you for posting this. This man's sacrifice should be made known far and wide.
Linked with an extensive commentary at my blog.
Initially, I wondered what the caliber/cartridge line up looked like, but then again, it doesn't matter.
At point blank range, there is no advantage to drawing and firing against a drawn weapon. It's a zero sum game.
You are right. Get off the "X". Regain the initiative. Then employ offensive tactics.
The Monday morning quarterback in me says the boyfriend could have short circuited the obvious parking lot trap (which was already a known dangerzone according to previous robbery reports) by having her wait inside behind a locked door while he pulled the vehicle up. Heck, I'd back up to the door and have pistol in hand, forcing the assailants to approach into headlights and muzzle coverage. After one previous robbery, I'd be tempted to bring a scattergun with a light. Two previous robberies? I wouldn't have my significant other working there.
Side note: You gotta do what you gotta do to make ends meet, but anything that requires both parents to be gone at that hour when you have a 1 and 3 year old at home has got to be tough to coordinate childcare for. That sounds like a hard row to hoe.

too bad the robber is expected to recover. as you said it doesn't always turn out the way we would prefer.

Oh, I don't know; I think the good guy did win in this case. Sure, he lost his life, but if he truly understood what he was doing by going armed to protect a loved one, he'd be the first to say that his girlfriend lived, the money wasn't stolen, and the perp is sitting in jail with a capital murder charge in Texas (which is as good as dead).
