Looters Fired Upon

Note the unnecessary quotationsNational Guardsmen protecting three 18 wheelers carrying hurricane related supplies in Evangeline Parish were fired upon by looters early this morning. The servicemen returned fire with their M-16's.

"Sometime after midnight, somewhere between two and three criminals, we believe they were attempting to loot those supplies, actually opened fire," Governor Bobby Jindal stated. "They fired about five or six shots at the National Guardsmen. The MPs, the military police, that were there took shelter behind their military vehicle. They returned fire with their M-16 rifles. The criminals fled."

The criminals remain at large. "I would just ask our people to continue to be vigilant about their safety," Jindal continued. Roger that.

How intelligent of the looters...facing off with MP's who are quite possible veterans of Iraq or Afganistan. Who have automatic weapons, no less.

Good for the Guardsmen! :)

Quite frankly, if someone is dumb enough to think looting a military supply convoy is a good idea, they truly deserve to be removed from the gene pool.

MPs should have been better shots, we'd be thankfully short a few dirtbags.

Tell us more! Did they have night vision and ACOG's? Any pitiful victims showing up at ER's with 'accidental' .223 wounds?

If looters have little to no issue with opening fire on armed military troops for what they want, will they have much issue attacking those who have been disarmed by the government, "for their own protection"?

Makes you wonder why they missed - were they rookies or vets who had to think about shooting an American.

It would be interesting to see an analysis after all the facts are in.

Will American troops shoot to kill Americans? They did in the past, but will they again when times call for it?

The Guard really should address the issue of remedial marksmanship. Those looters should have never escaped.

Ville Platte was later updated to Evangeline Parish by the National Guard.

How about identifying yourself next time you say a citation is "needed?"

I have to think the guardsmen simply sought to drive off the looters. There's a lot of red tape and paperwork involved in killing civilians, even criminal ones.

Chances are, the guardsmen simply wanted to get through the night and go home when the relief effort is over.

asking for citations, yet posting anon sure makes a great case for those who'd argue the point.

Or not. ;)

I imagine they didn't shoot to kill, but red tape or no, they'd have done us a favor if they'd shot better.

I would just ask that nex time the MPs hit the bad guys. :)
Attempted capital murderers should be brought down, if at all possible, and not be allowed to flee.

Might have been a rules of engagement SNAFU.

Warning shots, followed by a few minutes getting permission to return fire may have been enough for the 'tards to come to their senses and flee.
