He was a really cool guy. I saw some old video of him with his daughters and wife performing onstage, and it was very sweet and supportive of him to share the stage, especially with the little one who was very young and not an overly-polished hollywood/nashville product. Most refreshing indeed. It's nice to see a good-natured performer for whom it's about having a good time.
I always thought of Jerry Reed primarily as a singer.
Here is is jamming with Chet Atkins and holding his own: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni8KBhnebwE
He was one heck of a guitarist too.

I had the good fortune to meet him when i helped with security at a Concert he put on in SW Kansas many years ago . While i cannot apply the description of " gentleman " to him He was a lot of fun , and insisted in meeting my wife and kids at the concerts end . All in all the world gets a bit poorer everytime we loose one like him . He never was an actor , What you saw in the movies was just what you saw when you delt with him personally . Many readers here will understand that imho He was a complete redneck prick , and i have never had occasion to question his honesty, sincerity , or treatment of others . He was an ol Redneck boy who made good and never lost his roots. RIP Jerry, May your amps always work , your bus always be stocked , and may you never again find " round steak " to be all in the fridge . Oh and never again will i trade guns with you LOL .
