Local Voter Turnout

I purposefully waited until 11:00 in the morning today to cast my vote. My polling station is in an area that is guaranteed to have many Obama supporters. I wanted to gauge the tides at the polls.

As I completed my cases this morning, I had heard ominous stories of long lines. I arranged for a friend who had already voted to take my place at work, and I picked up a chicken salad sandwich to eat while waiting in line.

With the exception of one young man who was disenfranchised because he had already voted in another parish, the expected turnout was either off somewhere smoking crack or working. They were not at the polls.

In AZ turnout was very heavy. I had to wait 20 minutes at 07:00. Our ballot is an optical scan paper ballot where you complete an arrow. it's very fast, very efficient.

A lot of our turnout is driven by the propositions though...

Milady gets off at 5:00. She's the RN at a private surgical clinic. We'll head over to the polls after she gets off.

I experienced the same thing when I went to vote in Volusia County in Florida. I was in and out in 10 minutes. I guess everyone who wanted to vote already voted during the early voting earlier in the month.

Xavier,

My wife and I went to the Polling Place (Salcha Elementary School) at 7 AM; we were first in line.

We live 30 miles south of Fairbanks and Salcha School is another 10 or 12 miles further south. We actually got there about 10 or 15 minutes early and by the time the Polls were ready to open there were 8 or 9 others standing in line behind us.

It was snowing and there was someone out front with a snow blower trying to (but not all together succeeding in) bravely keeping the front drive clear of snow.

I hope you are right about the majority of "O" Supporters being off somewhere else "doing something more important"...

Thanks,

Doug

I spent 1.5 hours voting. The line was pretty bad, but it was even worse earlier in the day.

Gee anonymous, I didn't know you were so stupid you couldn't spell bigot and so cowardly you wouldn't leave a name.

In my part of AZ turnout was heavy but it was also moving quickly. Me and Mrs. Lordjim did it door to door in 30 minutes.

First time voting in this state and I have to say KY spoiled me. No satisfying "THUNK" when you vote out here. Just a "Whirrrrr" as it gets sucked into the counter.

There was no waiting at my polling place in Central FL. at 0800 this morning. In and out. I'm crossing my fingers and daring to hope.
