J&G Sales has a Clark Custom Heavy Slide 1911 up for grabs.
"This is a Colt Government MK IV Series 70 1911 semi auto pistol chambered in 45ACP. This pistol has a Bomar rail with adjustable sights, and has "Clark Heavy Slide" engraved on the slide. Also features a stippled grip frame with a blued trigger shoe. In very good plus condition."
These pistols normally sell for around $1700 fresh from Clark's. J&G is wanting $1,295.

What is the advantage of a heavy slide? I assume the cycling is slower, but how does that translate into increased performance?

Speaking as a layman here:
More weight, particularly on the barrel, means less muzzle flip, which might give you a millimeter or two on the target on a good day, but perhaps more importantly speeds up followup shots. It also means that assuming you're strong enough that it doesn't become detrimental, holding it steady will be easier(simple physics: more energy will be required to move it, due to the increased inertia of higher weight/mass), which is probably where the biggest gain in accuracy lies.
