Digging
Bury a Gun and Ammo for 15 Years (and be assured everything still works when you dig it up) by Charles Wood
One thought though........ If it's time to bury them, it's time to dig them up.

Xavier is a Registered Nurse who specialized in complex wound care. He has practiced for over fourteen years in his community. He often provided nursing service in areas where law enforcement refused to enter without back-up. Xavier now works in surgery. Xavier has been an avid shooter for over 30 years. He strongly supports the 2nd Amendment, opposes gun control of any sort, and carries a weapon 24 hours a day. Xavier is known on various internet gun forums as XavierBreath. He is married with three children, and is moderated by an apathetic one eyed cat, a goofy Golden Retriever, and a stalwart German Shepherd Dog. One day, he hopes to be deserving of them all.

The Four Rules
1. All firearms are always loaded
2. Never let the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you are not willing to destroy
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
4. Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it
The Five Rules of Concealed Carry
1. Your concealed handgun is for protection of life only.
2. Know exactly when you can use your gun.
3. If you can run away -- RUN!
4. Display your gun, be prepared to go to jail.
5. Don't let your emotions get the best of you.

My version: "If it's time to bury them, it's time to buy more guns and ammo and to prepare to defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC."
That's the rub of it, isn't it?
If it is time to bury our guns to prevent them from being seized then it is time to load and use them to prevent them from being seized.
Perhaps Pelosi, Reid and Obama are "pragmatic" enough to realize this, too.
This country just saw the biggest purchase of guns by civilians to occur in decades and the items chosen were largely the high capacity carbine and rifle version.
Trying to impose any outright gun seizure now would be the start of a civil war that Washington would lose.
We don't have to worry about the black helicopters and major raids by the ATF, yet.
We must, instead, look to preventing the imposition of new ways to restrict our rights AND the REPEAL of the laws that date back to the 1930s and before.
Protecting what we "have" isn't enough. We must fight to take back what truly is ours and this fight must take place in legislatures and courts at the state level.
We must fight to end the political careers of Bloomberg and Nagin and Fenty, to send them scurrying to private sector jobs.
We must expose the lies of Michael Moore and Sarah Brady.
The fight we MUST undertake is one of ballots and information and we must engage in it NOW and tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.
A thought that was voiced on "hate radio" during the Clinton years, was "if it's bad enough to bury our guns, how much worse does it have to get before we dig them back up?"
Burying guns to me seems like a decent idea, and is akin to a "second-strike" capability. You can't always withstand an initial blow, especially if it takes you by surprise. Having a hidden reserve, though, gives you a second chance.
Few, if any, of us are with our guns 24-7. While I'm at the movies, doctor's, or firing range my home could be broken into by someone with enough determination and my guns taken. If I have a family, there are ways of making me essentially pick between my guns and putting food on the table (including staying out of jail to do so).
To my mind, burying guns (or at least having ones without a paper trail that can be unconstitutionally abused) is like having a BUG: it should never be your go-to solution, but you should always have it ready.
Oh, and for those of us in the suburbs: check with the power company before doing any digging!
I'd best pray that the S doesn't HTF in February around here, or I'd be banging my pickax into the frozen, rock-solid dirt trying to retrieve my hardware.
Note to self: stash the guns between the wall studs, instead.
I just read that story in my Dad's Backwoods Home this week. I thought it clever that he had included something to clean the cosmoline off with as well as reloading dies.
Actually, it IS time to bury guns. But not the singular gun...
Rather, a large cash of like weapons and a stockpile of ammo in the backwoods somewhere.
(ie: 20 SKS and 10,000 rounds of ammo)
The point being to have the ability to arm a small platoon of resistance. Be they unarmed who have only now come to join or those who have been disarmed.
;-)
Then it makes sense IMHO.
I wonder how many of the people who read this article (planning for 2009) have actually taken the time to call and/or write their national and state representatives to politely remind them of the musical chairs event that happened after the Clinton Gun Ban was passed?
A friend says that for any gun you really use (and I think those of us who are users know the diff between "using" and "owning"), you should have four copies:
One for your hip.
One in the safe.
One at the shop getting fixed because you shot it a lot.
One stored off-site someplace safe.
