Seeing Green

"Dogs appear to experience a range of complex, unpleasant emotions such as jealousy and pride, scientists have discovered."

It took a bunch of geeks in lab coats to tell us that?

Xav,
Given your penchant for .22 target pistols and Smith & Wessons, I would think the Smith model 41 would be a natural choice for you. Do you have any thoughts on these?

Thanks!

"Scientists noted that dogs hate to see their owners being affectionate to other dogs" It's as if the study was done by 'scientists' who never had dogs. Just like the people who describe baby development in my collage psychology text books. Once I finally had a baby, I realized it was all crap.

Yeah, and many other things for which someone paid millions of dollars when all they had to do was ask someone who knew. LOL!

I read your baby story and it gave me chills.

Cats, dogs....many animals - if you observe and/or care for/about, work with - long enough show us different sides of personality --- if someone is looking or cares they see it - if capable --- that's why it can hurt so much when we lose them - they feel, we feel.

probably not part of the study and sorry not part of the blog but -

People should not use (abuse, torture - in the name of science) animals for testing - and that is what it is - torture. Just check into animal experiments. It is a terrible thing. Science/industry has advanced enough to use other and or new testing practices - not animals.

Pete,

One day I may buy a S&W 41. I came close on a package deal once, $800 for two barrels, two grips multiple mags and of course, the pistol itself, but I passed. I regret that. I will probably never see a deal like that again.

Science stating the obvious. I've got three dogs. If there's anything dogs experience in negative emotions, jealousy, anger, sneakiness (sp?), and grudges are certainly among them. But the Golden is worth it. The other two will make fine furry slippers some day.

hey Pete, I bought a model 41 about a month ago, great deal on a used one. The local gun shop has had 4 used ones in the last 3 months (two there now). I love it, the trigger is very nice- like breaking a glass rod. I assumed that it and a ruger were more accurate than I am, so what sold me on the 41 over a cheaper ruger (and I was looking at the hunter mkiii )was how easy it is to take it apart. after doing it once, I can take it apart and put it all back together in a minute. I had really wanted a ruger too, and it would have been new and stainless, but I made the right choice.
