Battle Rifles
I took a trio of battle rifles to the range today. It just seemed the right thing to do. I was not alone at the range. Other shooters, whom I had never met were there. I did not know them, yet I knew who they were. 
There was talk of the new administration and the challenges ahead of us as a nation.

Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.It is a sad fact that many gun owners voted for the blind change offered by Obama. If gun owners are to preserve our rights, we must come together and oppose legislation that would strip any right away from any of us. It's going to be a long four years.

I notice the folder on your AK is similar to one I have on my AK.
It will, from time to time, unlatch and attempt to fold itself up when firing. This is annoying.
Has this happened to yours, and if so, what, if any, solutions have you found to the problem?
It does not matter who the president it or what political affiliation he has. We as gun owners should stay united, evangelize new gun enthusiasts and enlist our youth to gun sports. Together as a strong group we will be able to keep our 2nd amendment preserved.
Sorry to say, but I really don't care much about "assault weapons" right now, primarily because I'm afraid of what's going to happen to legally concealed carry and gun ownership in general. I fear that when I can finally can legally own and carry a gun, those rights will have disappeared.
Oh, and as far as making guns "childproof," I get the feeling that if/when such a law comes to pass, it's going to backfire big time. Remember the so-called childproof caps on medicine bottles? The ones that only children could get off?

This is what happens when the welfare class discovered it could vote itself a pay raise. Did anyone expect anything different from a Chicago hoodlum and joe "I am a word thief" Biden. They are cockroaches on society.
A man or group of men can physically take your guns. They cannot physically take your right to own them, or your God-given right of self-defense. No man has that power.

I should have phrased my initial comment differently: if Obama signs AWB2.0 into law, I'll be just as ticked off as you'll be. I am, however, still gravely concerned that our right to adequately defend ourselves outside our homes will be stripped from us as well.
More than likely it will be a long eight years.

Man, I keep getting reminded I got into this game to late. I just hope that the NRA and other citizen organizations can stave off this madness. Despite what others think I believe the Heller ruling will not overturn a new AWB if it is imposed.

I celebrated today's inauguration by picking up a Mossberg 590. While it won't necessarily be covered by a revival of the ban, it's a weapon I could afford to add to the arsenal and one I'd wanted for some time.
I figure that it's only a matter of time until "high capacity" shotguns with evil bayonet lugs make the list in any case.
The thought of "things to come" does scare me but I think the Republican Party shot itself in the foot long before Barack Obama decided to run. They decided to listen to RINOs like 'Maverick John McCain' and thought they could 'govern from the center' with moderates making up the core of their constituency (while totally ignoring the Conservatives).
Perhaps BHO will, in the long run, be better for the Republican Party than 4 to 8 years of John McCain. If the people of the United States could repeal Prohabition, they should be able to repeal AWB2 as well (when Conservatives again have a solid conservative candidate to support).
I think Obama has more important things on his agenda right now.

I think it is wrong to look at it from a party affiliation standpoint. We need more power. We actually need to open the eyes of those voting for the dems and get them enjoy and support 2nd amendment rights.

Heller may not "overturn" a new AWB, but it is definitely a tool we never had before.
If I read the opinions correctly, every single justice agreed that the right to keep and bear arms was an individual right, they just disagreed on the extent.
Heller itself may not mean anything to a new assault weapons ban, but in the next Supreme Court case over gun ownership, Heller vs. DC will be the ruling that is referred to. Heller gave us a foot in the door, we need to keep pushing.
It is super easy to send a message to The White House through the link you provided. Everyone needs to tell the Big Man who he works for and that any gun grab will be aggressively opposed.

It's the "childproof" thing that's really scary, since there's no way to make a gun childproof without making it adult-proof, too. I suppose this is the current version of the "no gun shops within five miles of a school or park" joke.

Heller was a 5-4 decision. There is a high probability the court will lose that 2A majority when the sitting President names replacement justices. Scalia is in his late 70's or early 80's, and the compromise language in his opinion left some gaping holes for "common sense" regulation.
Screw both parties. I am heading to New Hampshire. Feel free to keep voting for socialist light and hoping for different results.
DouginSalcha, it is also important to understand that the Republicans scared off any moderates they were aiming for with McCain by using Palin to shore up votes with conservatives. Many that may have voted for McCain were scared off by Palin.
What gun owners really need is a candidate who supports gun rights, but is moderate on other issues. Anti-gun legislation is not a top priority of most Democratic voters, in fact there ARE Democratic politicians who support gun rights more than many of the "RINOs" out there. If gun rights are to be a top priority, we need to get candidates that are moderate enough on other issues that we can get support from traditionally democratic voters as well.

I suspose there are somethings I could support that could fit within the "Moderate" label but I don't (and didn't) like John McCain. I don't think he's a "Moderate" - I think he is (and was) a "Liberal". He favored some forms of "Sensible Gun Control" (Liberal). He favored Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (Liberal). I think He favored the Dubai Ports Deal (Liberal). I think he favored a return to the "Fairness Doctrine" (Liberal). I think he also favored a number other things that have traditionally been Liberal Political Agendas. What did he favor that was "Moderate" as opposed to "Liberal"?
I did like Sara Palin. What, specifically, was it about her that you found objectionable? She was the only reason I voted for the McCain / Palin Ticket. I would very probably "abstained" from voting in the National Election for the Executive Office had the choice been only between Obama and McCain. There were a lot of people blaming Sara Palin for McCain's loss; I don't believe it. I think John McCain was the reason John McCain lost (and I wish he would go ahead and retire from the political scene). I want a Conservative Choice next time around - maybe that will allow us to not only win the election but to win it with enthusiasm.

Only the middle gun (the CETME) is a battle rifle at least in the proper sense of the term.

I wasn't arguing the merits or stances of any particular politician. I just think the McCain/Palin combination was poor strategy as any moderates/liberals that may have been attracted to McCain were scared off by Palin. No judgment of any candidate here, just pointing out a bad play.
I think if we want to see gun rights succeed in the long term, we need to find someone who supports gun rights but has a broader appeal than to just traditional conservatives. For me, this is a discussion of strategy to preserve gun rights, it isn't meant to dissect every political stance of past candidates on less important issues.
