Xavier is a Registered Nurse who specialized in complex wound care. He has practiced for over fourteen years in his community. He often provided nursing service in areas where law enforcement refused to enter without back-up. Xavier now works in surgery. Xavier has been an avid shooter for over 30 years. He strongly supports the 2nd Amendment, opposes gun control of any sort, and carries a weapon 24 hours a day. Xavier is known on various internet gun forums as XavierBreath. He is married with three children, and is moderated by an apathetic one eyed cat, a goofy Golden Retriever, and a stalwart German Shepherd Dog. One day, he hopes to be deserving of them all.

4. Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it
The Five Rules of Concealed Carry

I don't think it's ugly... If anything I'd love to see colt make a modern version of the 1903 or 1908. It should be a "Pocket Model"... Small, thin, and in a reasonable caliber (50 AE not a option). I could see 380 or maybe 9 but no bigger.
Sorry, Xavier, but I think it's really pretty. There's no sense arguing over taste, I guess.
Sorry Xavier, this one doesn't qualify as an ugly gun.
It is a beautiful piece of custom work. I can't say I see $8000 worth of work but it still is an awesome looking pistol.
I love my 1903. Sorry, this piece makes me happy.
Superb craftsmanship, but I'm with Xavier. The customer is not always right.
That excrescence over the hammer ruins the lines. It isn't even really utilitarian the way a shrouded hammer on a snubbie is.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the execution isn't exquisite, and the bluing is as lusterous as any Python.......
It's just that the gun looks as topheavy as a HiPoint. I wonder why Bill Laughridge didn't fill in the finger bevels behind the trigger or at least use a 1911 frame so the frame itself would more closely ressemble a 1903 Hammerless.
Perhaps I should edit the post to reflect this.......
Sorry, Xavier, but I gotta go with the crowd on this one. I'd give my left arm for one if they made 'em for real (need my right to shoot it ;) )
I can kinda see how you can liken it to a Hi-Point, but that's kind of a stretch...
I agree with you Xavier, its ugly as well as the gun it's modeled after. All those Colt hammerlesses never appealed to me, but they are a purpose-built gun that suited a purpose, which this gun does not.
Ugly, just like a Glock.
If you look at the 1903, and then the 1908, along with a couple other JMB designs, I feel that he would have designed the 1911 with an enclosed hammer, had it not been for the army requiring an exposed hammer (or at least I hear they did). I think its a beautiful gun, and makes more sense in my mind for a carry gun. It also eliminates the safety hazard of poorly educated users attempting to decock the hammer after chambering a round, which can lead to a negligent discharge.
Raptor, they are now available for sale at C&S starting at only $2595.00!

I've never been a big fan of the 1903 myself. But, like the Glock, it grew on me.
Not necessarily ugly, just...there's something wrong. It's like there are several little things that are individually not quite right and add up to a pistol that just doesn't quite do it.
just how in hell do you do a hammer recock??
I got nothin to say here,but..
"yuck"
but yeah,it DOES look like a 1903,32/380..but JMB designed it to BE a pocket pistol with minimal square edges to stop a fast draw.
this wont fit in ANY pocket of anyone's pants unless their a GIANT
We haven't heard from Tam yet. When we do........duck!
"just how in hell do you do a hammer recock??"
Why would you do a hammer recock?
It is a beautiful work of craftsmanship, but it is awkward.
Jim
Tam...the 19911 CAN be safely carried hammer down/round up..or if you want a quick second strike, you can thumb the hammer for a re hit.
faster then racking the slide, and something that may save you if you drug the hammer and it didnt strike hard enough to fire...ANNnnnd you have only ONE HAND FREE,I can do mine with one hand,no problem...remember...grip safety??????
I am amoungst one of JMB's highest, completely and totally, dedicated lovers of his weapons designs..I own three, but the 1903 never has enthralled me..ever,nor would a bastardisation of his great works, make my heart go all aflutter.
yeah, pretty execution, but tacitely, and TACTICALLY...I humbly repeat my last statement about this gun...
YUCK!!!

Like somebody once told me, everybody has a right to be wrong, but in this case, you're 100-percent correct: ugly! While none of us can speak for JMB, it wouldn't surprise me if he thought, "Why?"
Another favorite saying I think applies here: Just because you can doesn't mean you should!

I don't think my HiPoint would look that good with ivory grips.
nature23,
I have a feeling your trespasses will be forgiven as it is you do not know against for whom you speak.
You do not "rethumb" the hammer... tap rack bang. If a cartridge doesn't go, get it the hell out of there and hit a fresh one.
If you're one handed, then you find some hard surface to press the lower front of the slide against. You don't have one of those "abomination" guide rods in your 1911, do you?
And speaking of abominations, it is NOT safe to carry hammer down on a live round with any "true" 1911. 1991 with the firing pin safety, sure.... but the original 1911 has nothing to stop a struck hammer from transmitting force straight through the firing pin into the primer. Drop a hammer-down 1911 on the hammer nose and it will go "bang".
I think it's beautiful.
Oh no - and I usually really like everything you write! It's just that, today I bought a Colt 1903 with ivory grips. It's the baby brother to your ugly 1911 and now I'd like your ugly gun to go with it!
