Power Outage
Rain, lightning, BOOM! The power went out this evening, so not much blogging. I spent my time lighting kerosene lamps and putting bubble boxes in the salt tanks. I took a few photos before the house went dark. Here's the best one. Critique away.

Maybe a generator is in your future, especially with those fish tanks.
I've thought about it anon, even blogged about it and got a lot of helpful advice. I regret to say I still haven't made the jump......
Power outages usually last only 2-6 hours here.
Eh, if the fishies die, there's always sushi. Heh.
As for the fish, you might be able to get away with a UPS or two, particularly if you hack them with bigger batteries.
For the photo, I try to avoid portraits where the subject matches the colour of the background, but I would be happy to produce photos like that otherwise.

Please explain "putting bubble boxes in the salt tanks". . .I have no clue what you are talking about....
have an electrician install a power takeoff at the breaker box. it costs about $500. when you need it, you can kill the main breaker, plug the generator in, and power your house as normal till you see your neighbors house light up with regular line current. It is definitely worth it. you can even run a couple of window units for you and your child's bedrooms. you can put up with a hot house if you sleep with AC.
Was a really nice setup during Ike last year in Houston.

I have a few saltwater aquariums. They depend on electricity for aeration. When the power goes out, I use battery powered "bubble boxes" that are used for minnow buckets when fishing.
Gosh, it must be nice to have a willing and cooperative model around all the time! My girlfriend has just taken to glaring at me if I try to snap her picture, and the kids are at that "face-making" age.
The only thing I see wrong with the photograph is that she is not holding a gun. Perhaps a nickle model 19.

What I do with my genny, I have a dryer plug for an electric dryer and a gas port for a gas dryer. I bought a gas dryer and use the 220 for the would-be electric dryer to run a 220 male plug from the genny to the plug for the electric dryer after turner off the mains to the home.
I then can run a few items at the same time, such as a window unit, and tv and fridge or the laptop with an aircard and a window unit and freezer. Ya see a window AC is important!!
I have to keep the humidity away from the ammo and guns!!!
