A Nurse with a Gun
The 1:1.8 85mm Nikon lens is a superb portrait tool. These two images can be enlarged by clicking on them. The original dimensions of the upper portrait is 1887 X 1279. The dappled light on Cassie (the Golden Retriever) is difficult to deal with.

Might I suggest getting a Fotki account instead of a Flickr account?
I've been hosting my pictures on Flickr for years and they have free and paid accounts. I have a paid one, as it offers unlimited storage space, and custom layout-ed co-branding pages. I've been VERY happy with them, especially options such as ordering prints, and viewing images in a slideshow.
Great photos. You have a beautiful family. My father is a cop and part time photographer(http://www.moroderphotography.com). He uses a similar Nikon. They are awesome cameras. Having a good camera is like having a good gun. A bad shot can never be blamed on the shooter!

I love that "OMG what's Dad gonna do NOW to embarrass me" look. (I've seen it before, just not sure where.) Cassie and Nick could be littermates to look at them. Lucky dog, (and them too).
I agree with luca - great photos and good job with the camera. I use a Canon EOS (with 8 mega pixel capability). Wish I could say all the poor pictures were the camera's fault but it just isn't so.
It does look warmer there; it still down around zero or below zero in the early mornings. We still have snow and it doesn't look like it wants to melt yet.

Scratch what I said earlier about Picasa. I had it reversed. Flickr is the way to go.
Nice range of hyperfocal distance, and a pleasant bokeh MAKE a portrait lens.
This lens has both.
Even better if it's a fast lens (though generally that goes along with the hyperfocal thing), so it can shoot well in most light.
Again, this lens succeeds.
