The Death of a Friend

"A Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman says Marcus Luttrell was involved in the high speed chase in the early morning of April 1 after finding his yellow Labrador shot outside his Huntsville home. Onalaska Police Department stopped the suspects. The Walker County Sheriff's Department investigated the death of Luttrell's dog, Daisy. They charged Michael John Edmonds II, 21, and Alfonzo Hernandez, 24, with cruelty to a non-livestock animal. The driver of the vehicle was cited for not having a license."
Petty Officer Marcus Luttrell was a graduate of BUD/S Class 228. He is the only survivor of the fateful events of June 28, 2005 in Afghanistan. Luttrell and three teammates from SEAL Team 10 were assigned to a reconnaissance mission, operation RED WING, in the Hindu-Kush mountain region of Afghanistan. Their objective was to gather intelligence on Taliban movement in the area. Through a series of events, the team was compromised, discovered and outnumbered by over 200 Taliban fighters.

After a battle down the side of the mountain lasting hours, Luttrell's buddies were dead. Luttrell was the only survivor. In the rescue mission that followed, 16 Special Forces personnel, including 8 SEALs, died when their helicopter was shot down by Taliban fighters. It was the largest single day loss of life in the SEAL team history.

It is a sad day when two sorry son of a bitches go out at night, ride around in a pick-up truck and shoot a harmless dog in her own yard for fun. This was a rehabilitation dog given to Mr. Luttrell after his return from Afghanistan. She was named for the friends he lost. Danny, Axe, Southern Boy (Marcus) and Yankee.

One of these sorry assed dog killers is still on the run. His name is Michael Edmonds. If you have any information on Edmonds' whereabouts, please contact Sgt. Steven Jeter at the Huntsville Texas Ranger station at 936-435-0152.

UPDATE: Michael Edmonds has surrendered to authorities. He is out on bond. Contact the Walker County Prosecutor's Office to let them know how you feel about this random killing of dogs for kicks.

Thanks for the post. I read the book a few months ago about Marcus and the events in the Hindu Kush. He is a true American Hero. Hopefully those worthless POS will get whats coming to them.

I'll bet money something bad is going to happen to these two in the near future, and it won't even be dog's owner doing it.

Reap what you sow.

I think these dog killing punks ought to get lots and lots of publicity--After all, they thought they were such uber-bad boys by shooting dogs for sport, they ought to be given ALL the notoriety they deserve. How Luttrell managed to retain control of himself is nothing short of Saint-worthy. Perhaps enough public outrage will make these punks wish Luttrel had doubled tapped them.

That famous SEAL discipline in action as this true American hero restrains himself from lighting these miscreants up. Flay these characters on national TV, say I, former Marine. Better yet, give them to the dog's owner for a while. Where the heck is this country headed!?

Marcus Luttrell is the truest of American heroes, as I learned after reading "Lone Survivor." I don't know how he didn't kill these sorry sons of bitches. They are lucky to be alive.

Making an enemy of a US Navy SEAL? Gee whiz, they must be terminally stupid. I mean, any man who has his dog shot out from underneath him like that is dangerous; never mind one with motive andmeans. Something tells me prison will be a bad place for these two degenerates.

Oh, why did he have to get PETA involved? It's like making a deal with the devil.

Some "humans" do not deserve oxygen rations.

He was a SAINT among SEALs for not executing them all in a summary fashion and allowing them the benefit of a jury trials they don't deserve.

May they have many a year of soap drops ahead of them and then they get to go to hell afterwards.

Unfortunately what they did is only a Class A Misdemeanor. Meaning the Max penalty is 1 year & a $4k fine. It takes two prior convictions to bump it up to a felony.

Great Post. What happened was very sad. Being a Texan and I can promise you that a Texas judge and jury will come down very hard on those two.

Damn, my heart goes out to that vet. Kudos to him for showing the restraint and not killing those guys, but who could blame him if he did? Damn white trash!! >:(

For good or for bad, that's a particularly rough and patriotic part of Texas. If I were that child, I would have asked to be kept in protective custody rather than ever show my face in public again. The odds of somebody "teaching him a lesson" over there in East Texas are QUITE HIGH.

I'm pretty sure God ain't with him but even if he is, inside or outside of the cage, that boy is going to have troubles. I'll guarantee it. I can see it now "You're the feller that shot that SEAL's dog?..."

Hobson's choice for him to surrender or not but I'm sure justice will be done by someone(s).

Regards from the other side of that river,
Tom

Let's not get to equating dogs with people,,, dogs are generally better...and would you have expected otherwise from a SEAL.

You know, I'd really like to have seen their faces once they found out just who's dog it was that they shot.

"Wait, he's a Navy *WHAT*?!? For real? And he did *WHAT* in Afghanistan?!? MOMMY!!!!"

FYI, I believe the dogs name is DASY

And it stood for Marcus and his squad mates.

Yep, The Saj, I noted that in the blog post. I also noted that in some stories I read it was spelled Dasy, in others Daisy. I chose to spell it the later way until Marcus tells me I spelled it wrong.

This is victim selection fail of grand proportions. They're lucky that Luttrell maintained his composure and discipline. The alternative would have been most unpleasant for these young men.

But likely, not for long.

I generally prefer dogs to people, and I hope that the bastards responsible do the max. But IT WAS NOT MURDER. This was a dog. It isn't that I'm heartless; I simply don't want "murder" to spread to cats, hamsters, cattle, and chickens.

Those men have brought real bad karma down on themselves, and I hope there's videotape when it happens. But I also don't want to see new laws enacted because of this, and rights eroded.
