How Not To Do It

Remember those picture games as a kid where the challenge was to find as many things wrong with a photo as possible? Here's one for gunnies.

For advice on taking better gun photos, take a click to this link.

  1. That is very, very wrong.

Well, just off the top of my head...

It's over-exposed (looks like they bumped up the levels in response to poor lighting, which blew out the details in the cash).

    Focus is bad.

    Composition sucks

Big toe shouldn't be in the frame (duh).

    They used the on-camera flash.

That's just off the top of my head, and not even going into the gun issues (I mean a Glock? Serioulsy...:-P).

  3. You mean, besides being out of focus? And the photographer including his own toe in the image? If this is supposed to be "typical" pocket plunder, where's the spare magazine, and more importantly, the holster for the Baby Glock? Some pistols are okay for holsterless carry, but a chambered Glock is not one of 'em. Where's the pocket knife? Is the duct tape on the phone "wrong?"

Personally, I think the magazine extension is out of place on a pistol intended to be as compact as possible, but that is individual preference. I realize that some abhor the idea of an orphaned and unsupported pinky finger. The currency will become crumpled without a money clip or bill fold, but that's not necessarily "wrong."

How many is that? And, yes, I realize these items aren't all things that will bother some. I guess the naked pistol and YOUR putting up a poor image are the "wrongest" things.

The only thing I see wrong with it is that it's blurry.

If one of the perceived problems is that it's not exactly artistic (ie. the setup), I don't really get the impression that "artistic" is what the creator was aiming for.

Looks like a MySpace shot. *shrug*

Or maybe it was a QnD forum post in response to "What's in your pockets?" or something of the sort.

Do we know the source and the context?

Or maybe I'm not seeing something key?

Your big toe will never fit in that trigger guard, much less the gun being fired with your feet.

  6. Interesting parody of the classic shot: "the man gear," including firearm.

Outside of the photography things mentioned, "the man gear" photo could be improved several ways:

    1. When cash is used, lead with more than a sawbuck. I suggest US Grant, Ben Franklin is kind of cliche.

    2. The Kroger loyalty card on the key ring screams domestication, contraindicated in a man gear photo. Tsk, Tsk.

    3. The duct taped cell phone also screams domestication, in that too much money is being spent at Kroger in the diaper aisle and too little is beging spent on important man gear like electronics. I guess that might be where your $50 bill went as well.

    4. The toes in the photo were already mentioned. However, if you insist on using toes in your man gear photo, I would suggest letting them grow longer. These well cropped piggies also suggest domestication (HONEY, I SHANT BED DOWN WITH YOU AGAIN UNTIL YOU CLIP YOUR TOENAILS...YOU'RE SCRATCHING ME). Thankfully, they do not appear pedicured.

    Just one man's opinion.

  7. I think the guy from "My Left Foot" did a wonderful job. Great photo!

For starters, we'll ignore the poor picture quality and the excess body part in the picture already commented on.

Then, going on the sole assumption that this is one of those "what's in your pockets" questions:

A Glock in the pocket, even if nothing else is in that pocket, without a holster, is a negligent discharge waiting to happen.

If anything else goes in that pocket, especially those keys, the NG is going to happen even sooner.

  9. Wrong in terms of CCW
    -No holster!
    -No extra magazine!
-Crazy soldering iron stipling all over the grip/mag extension. (personal preference)
Wrong to the more serious CCW's
    -No light!
    -No knife!
    -No BUG!
    Wrong as a photograph
    -Out of focus
    -Over exposed
-Badly framed (part of the Glock is cut off)
-Background choice does not contrast well with the foreground
    -Unsightly body parts

The big toe looks like it should be on the other foot

  11. It's just crap dropped on the floor and photographed. Any monkey can do that.

Having your toes in gun pics has sort of become an inside joke on a couple of forums. Some people are doing on purpose now (poking fun at the people who didn't do it on purpose).

But is this an homage to such a toe photo or an original?

It reminds me of people mimicking the HK bullets in the mag the wrong way advert:) I guess gun people have that kind of a sense of humor.

  14. Looks like the mag isn't seated and the money isn't in my pocket.
