Trick question, no way to win.

But 97% have voted YES so that's how that one goes. And down the road, the wise latina will one of the votes to "retire" the "meaningless" 2nd Amendment.

Government giveth, government can taketh.

I went there to vote to show my support and the results were not as I expected. Good to see.

"Protect" or "Guarantee", but certainly not "Give".

I just never know how to answer when it's phrased like that.

97% voted Yes at my last check.... with close to 3 million voting. Somewhat reassuring...

Is that thing still alive? It appears to be from 2007.

And of course, the correct answer is "no", since the right pre-existed the Amendment.

As of 3:51pm EST, about 3% of people said "no."

I find even THAT frightening!

While someone could quibble about how the right to keep and bear arms is a preexisting right and the Second Amendment is just a limitation on the US Government, I don't care to for the purposes of the poll.

It is refreshing to see the 97% yes, though. A but surprising that they haven't manipulated it yet.

Wow, almost three million votes and it's 97 to 3 percent "yes". Brings a tear to me eye, so it does.

It's more accurate to say the 2nd amendment recognizes the right to bear arms.

What is "given" can also be taken away.

Not sure if it's just me or if USA Today doesn't like Firefox, but I had to pull it up in IE to get the poll to work.

In other news, out of 2,935,766 as of my vote, the split is 97% yes, 2% no, and 1% undecided. Unscientific though it might be, it's still nice to see those numbers.

From the link it appears to be a November 2007 pole and one which allows repeated voting by use of refresh.

Although, you gotta love the results.

Trick question: Our Creator ENDOWED us wih that right. The 2nd just recognizes that.

How long's this been up? The count shows almost 3 million votes.

Even if you vote yes, we all must remember that written documents, specifically the Amendments to the Constitution, do not "give" rights, they merely propagate them.

The human right to bear arms does not come from men, but rather is God given. If men fail to acknowledge this, this allows men to negate the certainty of all unalienable human rights.

Notice that the poll has been up since November of 2007? Still, out of 2,900,000+ responses 97% of them said "yes."

Technically, the 2nd does not grant the right but merely recognizes the pre-existing fundamental natural right. From that standpoint, the wording is flawed as there is no correct answer but answering "yes" does at least acknowledge the right that the second was intended to protect.

No, it is a God-given right to all people. The 2nd Amendment simply says the government of the United States of America recognizes this inherent right. If you say the 2nd amendment gives us this right then you are also giving the government the power to take it away by changing the constitution.

It's a trick question. :-(

That thing is still going? It started in November '07, and keeps getting passed around in gunnie forums, over and over, like it's new. I'm sure if they could USA Today would take down that page, but then that would trigger the paranoia in some gunnies.

I don't care for the poll. The Bill of Rights doesn't give anything. It acknowledges those rights.

The way the question is phrased is dangerous and misleading.

Remember, the only reason the mainstream media keeps asking this question is because they're unhappy with the answer.

the 2nd was put in there more for a checks and balances type of thing , that way no one man can become a tyrant ( even tho we have one making a good attempt at it )without the possibility of armed resisitance from the people who would stand against him !!!!!!!
