Joshua Beasley Sentenced
Joshua Beasley had attended a firearms safety course prior to killing his wife, but the lessons taught there apparently did not stick. He either slept through the class or felt the rules did not apply to one such as he. Once home from a day of shooting skeet, he decided to perform a house clearing drill. He pointed a shotgun at his wife and pulled the trigger. Tragically, it was loaded.
Alaina Beasley's family issued a written statement after sentencing:
“We struggle every day to understand why Josh decided to pick up a loaded shotgun, safety off, without checking it, and point that weapon at the one he vowed to love and protect; but then to pull the trigger — we find those actions absolutely inexcusable. While we don't believe Alaina's death was premeditated, it was NOT an ‘accident.' Although we felt strongly that Josh be held accountable for his recklessness, working with the Lancaster County Attorney's Office we requested they reduce the original charge to the lowest possible felony charge. None of our actions have been in pursuit of revenge, but out of a desire for justice for Alaina.”I have little doubt that Josh Beasley loved his wife, and that he grieves every day for her. I do not want to beat up on a man who made such an avoidable and catastrophic mistake, but it is my hope that everyone who comes in contact with his story will learn the basics of checking the condition of a firearm, learn and obey the Four Rules, and integrate firearms safety into their lives.

I hesitate to clasify this as a 'mistake'. This was plain negligence.
I might have mentioned this earlier, but "Senseless waste of human life," applies to each of them, albeit for entirely different reasons.

I suspect that, with the grief and sorrow he has felf, he looks much older now that he did when the photo was taken. I wonder if he will ever be able to be happy again; the picture shows him with the woman he was 'meant' to share a lifetime with.
My only surviving hope is tha others may learn something from this senseless tragedy and learn now (from his missfortune) never to 'play' with guns...
The best rule of all is dont ever handle guns. I personally lost my interest in them around the age of 11. Ordinary people are not allowed to own them in the UK.

I'm glad I'm a citizen of the U.S. instead of a subject of the U.K. My wife has used a gun to stop a rabid dog (when I was away). A former girlfried was able to stop an attempted rape by merely drawing her gun. These are just two instances where these ladies being able to "handle" a gun was a "good thing".
Both ladies understand, and follow, Cooper's four rules. I agree that one who is unable to obtain a certain level of maturity should not handle guns. Most children in the U.S. reach this level around age 11. It is indeed fortunate that you realize that you are not mature enough and have opted to not handle guns since then. It is unfortunate that this level of maturity is the norm in your country, and that "normal" people are therefore "not allowed" to own guns.
Voynaimir,
Who the hell do you think you are to even suggest that you have the authority to make this kind of statement about the citizens of another country?
Oh yeah, an ordinary British subject. Go bow to your queen.
Senseless.
I can imagine that while he will only serve five years in prison, he will spend the rest of his life in his own personal prison. I only think how I would feel if it happened to my wife and I was the cause...I am sure my feelings do not even begin to touch how he feels actually having done it. I pray for the family, and I pray for him.

Very few people are granted that honour and most of those that do boast of it to their family, friends and neighbours for the rest of their lives.
Yes, Voynaimir, that's the difference between the United States and the United Kingdom.
You are Subjects and we are Citizens; I can't help but wonder how many of your fellow Subjects would like to have the Right to return to Citizenship (and the Right to Protect themselves and their loved ones).

The cultural disconnect here is astounding. As an American, I bow to no one, “All men created equal” and all that. I cannot conceive how bowing (and scraping) to one of your “betters” can possibly be a good thing, neither can my countrymen.
Britisher, you failed to address the question of "Who the Hell do you think you are?"
Sounds to me you might be suffering from delusions of relevance.
Stupid....stupid stupid stupid.
He should have had chemical castration. People that stupid shouldn't be allowed to breed.

Call me skeptical, and I'll be the first to admit I have no other knowledge of the facts of this case. But If a man shoots his wife, it wasn't an accident.
Shame about what happened to the indians
Yeah Britisher.......
It is indeed shameful what your empire did to India.
Go bow to your prince.
There is no comparison at all between what happened to the red indians and the indians in asia. The red indians were wiped out in horrifying acts of genocide by the likes of john wayne, james t. custer and wild bill crocket, while far from being annihilated, the hindus were guided into the modern world by a century or so of benign rule and are now poised to become a world power.
Voinaimir, you can't possibly be that ignorant of your own nation's history.
I'm no apologist for the United States' history, but your lads have butchered plenty of populations throughout history, and you know it.
Well lets all try and do better in future then. I dont think owning guns or nuclear weapons is a step in the right direction though. It is particularly ironic that the people involved in this case seem to be fundamental Christians. I cant recall Jesus ever carrying a gun or preaching about the right to bear arms. Didnt he say something about turning the other cheek and rebuke Peter for trying to defend him?
What the Hell does Jesus have to do with this?
Voynaimir, you are now putting up strawmen and making unfounded accusations about religion.
