Outrageous Seizure of Property

This is NOT Melissa's leg, it's just a cool picture. In November 2005, burglars broke into the Los Angeles area home of 16-year-old Melissa Huff, stealing money and other valuables, including her prosthetic leg, which she depended on to ambulate and participate in sports. Such a leg usually costs about $5,000 to $7,000 and cannot be used by anyone else because it was custom fitted. The stolen limb is a special shock-absorbent "sports leg" with a flexible foot that allows Melissa to play softball. It means freedom and independence to Huff, who says that softball is her life."If I were to ever die, I'd want to be buried on the high school softball field," Huff said. She has other prosthetic legs however, including the one she was wearing the day of the burglary.
Huff lost her right leg two years ago when a driver ploughed his automobile into her as she stood on the pavement in front of her Los Angeles area school.
The teen recovered the stolen leg yesterday in the family home's yard in Temple City CA. Police then seized the leg as evidence. Sergeant David Austin, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, stated that the leg was "just thrown probably over the fence in the backyard area."
"Who knows whether they felt bad or they just wanted to get rid of it, because somebody, somewhere would have information as to who took it and where it's been," Austin said. Police are presently holding the leg, hoping to collect fingerprints.

How long does it take an officer to dust a surface for fingerprints? Officers, don't you think it's about time the lady got her damned leg back?
