Thoughts on Ted & Zumbo......

What the heck is an upgrade?

"he is truly sorry. ya hafta be a real putz to ignore that. I have personally promised to kill him if he wavers. with a blackrifle."
"anyone who so foolishly is ignoring the clear & obvious apology & upgrade here, plz dont bother posting. go to some hippie turd chewing bubba drunka$$ website & grovel there plz. here we demand upgrade. whattaconcept. Jeff, Ward, Mike, zap all a$$holes the hell out of my campfire plz. no punks allowed."
Ted Nugent

What's an upgrade?
Is this an upgrade?

Ted Nugent does not represent me.
I'm not sure who he thinks he is, but I didn't vote for him.

Ted is trying to save his buddy! When he should be condeming him.

It's a natural reaction to help a friend. But the 2A is issue here, not Zumbo.

Ted doesn't speak for a lot of us. Hollywood, rock stars, and gunwriters. Who do we trust now?

It must be lonely in those Ivory-towers they live in. I'll fight along side "Average Joe" any day.

By the way, good blog.

I agree with you.

He's just another celebrity who would whither away into nothingness without a constant supply of attention.

I think Ted Nugent and his antics give a poor impression of hunting and RKBA in general to the lay-person.

Sounds like the Motor City Madman is getting contaminated. "Rescuer becomes victim." I wondered what was going to happen when he rushed to defend Zumbo and declared his miraculous rehabilitation.

As stated above, he is trying to help a friend. Imagine if you have a good buddy who has gone and done something really dumb. Do you drop him immediately, or do you stand by him? What Zumbo did was egregious to the max, but Nugent is, right or wrong, trying to be a friend when the chips are down.

Fair-weather friends are a dime a dozen, but true friends, friends who will sacrifice their own reputation, are the rarest commodity in the universe. If you have a friend like that, consider yourself the luckiest of men.

Now, having said that, I, too, think Nugent's antics are grating. Being a 2A supporter and a hunter, I often wonder how people who are neither view ol' Ted's behavior. I like his energy, and even his music, but the way he comes across is irritating. I guess that's full bluntal Nugety for you.

Here's to all you AR/AK 15+ clip nail drivin',shootemup, old west beleivers, one way thinkers, head in the sand box, bloodnguts kind of gun toten gun owners. Your right Mr.Zumbo stuck his foot in his mouth, but he had a right to (1stamend). And you have a right to own AR's and AK's (2nd amend). What so sad, your are not free thinkers. What happened to the challenge of 222's and 223's and the hunt for rodents. Are you all really that blood thirsty? I know a person in this catagory. The target range is the place for the rapid fire weapons (note weapons)ie combat. Hopefully we will never see combat on our soil. You of rapid fire will use up all your ammo the first day. One shot at a time will be best. You will not be able to carry enough ammo. As of now the ammo manufactures are happy with spending of ammo. AR's and AK's are weapons of war and were designed as such. Yes, hunting rifles, muzzelloaders and shot guns can be used as weapons, but were not designed as such. A bow and arrow can be used as a weapon, but was not designed as such. We have folks who 'terrories" our communities every day, and they will always have weapons. Yes, we need the 2nd ammendment. And we need to be rational. God Bless America and our Military and I thank them for all their sacrifices.

I support your right to own guns. I support it mostly because it increases the odds that you will kill yourself or your children in a gun accident.

And face it, every time a gun nut, or the child of a gun nut, dies, the world becomes a better place.

So please keep buying assault rifles and hollowpoint ammo. And I will keep laughing at your gun and hunting accidents.

Sure, most of you will live. But I'll piss on the rest of your graves.

On the floor of the US Senate, Powerful Anti-Gun Senator Carl Levin used Zumbo a reason that guns must be banned:

Mr. LEVIN. Mr. President, the National Rifle Association leadership has stated repeatedly that a ban on assault weapons is ineffective and unnecessary. They assert that guns labeled as assault weapons are rarely used in violent crimes and that most people use them for hunting. However, despite these repeated assertions, the list of

[Page: S3348]people speaking out against assault weapons continues to grow.
Jim Zumbo , an outdoors entrepreneur who lives in a log cabin near Yellowstone National Park, has spent much of his life writing for prominent outdoor magazines, delivering lectures across the country and who starred in a highly rated TV show about big-game hunting. Jim has been an NRA member for 40 years, and, according to his Web site, has appeared with NRA officials in 70 cities across the country. This relationship changed drastically when Jim expressed his commonsense opinion on assault weapons.

Last month, after learning that some hunters were using assault weapons to hunt prairie dogs, Jim expressed his thoughts in his personal blog on the Outdoor Life magazine website. He wrote:

Maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I see no place for these weapons among our hunting fraternity. I'll go so far as to call them ``terrorist rifles.''

He continued by stating that in his:

..... humble opinion, these things have no place in hunting. We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern. I've always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don't use assault rifles. We've always been proud of our ``sporting firearms.''

The reaction from NRA officials was swift and callous. They immediately severed all ties with Mr. Zumbo . His TV program on the Outdoor Channel was canceled, and his longtime career with Outdoor Life magazine ended. In addition, many of his corporate ties to the biggest names in gun making, such as Remington Arms Co., were terminated.

Jim Zumbo has worked for years to improve the image of outdoorsmen. As he put it:

As hunters, we don't need the image of walking around the woods carrying one of these weapons. To most of the public, an assault rifle is a terrifying thing. Let's divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the prairies and woods.

We all owe Jim Zumbo a debt of gratitude for his forthrightness, his honesty and his courage. We must put the safety of our communities first by taking up and passing sensible gun legislation that includes renewing the assault weapons ban.
