Fair Play

Say hello to Christian Trejbal. On March 11, 2007, this so called journalistic scumbag published the names of concealed handgun permit holders in Virginia, along with their addresses.
Trejbal stated: "I can hear the shocked indignation of gun-toters already: It's nobody's business but mine if I want to pack heat. Au contraire. Because the government handles the permitting, it is everyone's business."
In the interest of fair play, Christian Trejbal's address is available. Write him at:
Christian J Trejbal
675 School Lane
Christianburg, VA 24073
His email is christian.trejbal@roanoke.com.

The Roanoke Times, which Trejbal used to publish the list can be reached at:
201 W. Campbell Ave.
P.O. Box 2491
Roanoke, Va. 24010-2491
Main Switchboard: (800) 346-1234 or (540) 981 3340

Play nice.

No bomb at editorial writer's home
By Donna Alvis-Banks and Paul Dellinger

Tuesday, March 13, 2007 UPDATED 5:59 p.m.

The mysterious package that was delivered today to Roanoke Times editorial writer Christian Trejbal's home and prompted the closing of a Christiansburg street turned out to be full of blank mailing labels and cardboard mailers.

School Lane was closed, a state police bomb squad was called and at least some neighbors were evacuated after Trejbal, who attracted a deluge of criticism with a column about concealed carry firearms permits, found the package during a lunch-time trip home. Trejbal has received threats in the wake of his Sunday column, which celebrated open government and public records and was accompanied by an online database listing the about 135,000 Virginians who are licensed to carry concealed firearms. The information is available to anyone who inquires at county courthouses, or can be obtained on a statewide basis from Richmond.

Angry responses poured into the paper's message boards after the column ran, with readers complaining that putting the database online would make it easier for thieves to find weapons to steal or for abusive spouses to track down partners who'd acquired weapons to protect themselves. The Roanoke Times removed the database from its Web site Monday afternoon due to concern that it might include names that should not have been made public, president and publisher Debbie Meade said.

Lt. Mark Sisson of the Christiansburg police said today that Trejbal said he definitely didn't order the package "so we're going to take every precaution."

Susan Thomas, who lives near Trejbal, called him a good neighbor, but said he had upset people with his columns. She and others who live in the neighborhood were confused as police arrived at his home.

"We don't have any idea what's going on," Thomas, 64, said as the bomb squad examined the box. "... I saw a yellow truck this morning. They delivered a package this morning. It said DHL on the side. ... Then I saw all the police cars. I asked them, 'Should we be concerned?' and they said 'Just give us a minute.' A minute has been two or three hours."

The box was full of blank mailers and labels from shipping company DHL. Wendy Parmalee of DHL's Blacksburg office said the box sounded like something that went to new customers and she was not sure why it was delivered to Trejbal.

Kinda jumpy there Christian? Just remember that the people whose personal security you compromised are decent, law abiding citizens, not the sex offenders you equated them to.

Finally........

My question: if something untoward happens to someone on the list, or at the address, etc, can this idiot and/or the paper be sued into nonexistence?

DHL dropped off a package at his house today and he called the bomb squad.

I wonder how many of his "threats" were real and how many he made up to appear "fearless" and paint us as "criminals".

I seem to vaguely remember all sorts of "outings" of groups who were seen by liberal journalists and politicians as "enemies"

this included disclosing the compensation figures for some farmers who's stock had been culled out for foot & mouth. Naming prominent people who are Masons etc.

And just to add a little bit of spice to the story; our intrepid reporter receives "death threats"

Load a bull shit (probably)

You're absolutely correct that the DB was scraped by the BG's at that site. The discussion on their forum was chilling for me as a law abiding citizen, home owner, Pistol Permit Holder, and Father.

The Roanoke Times Removes Database of Handgun Permit Holders

March 12, 2007 — The Roanoke Times has decided to remove the online database of registered concealed handgun permit holders from its website.

The newspaper is requesting the Virginia State Police, which provided the information, verify the data.

“When we posted the information, we had every reason to believe that the data the State Police had supplied would comply with the statutes. But people have notified us that the list includes names that should not have been released,” said Debbie Meade, president and publisher of The Roanoke Times. “Out of a sense of caution and concern for the public we have decided to take the database off of our website.”

The database was posted on roanoke.com on Sunday as part of a New River Valley editorial page column about open records. This column, as well as others that will be published this week, is part of a special focus on Sunshine Week, a national initiative to raise awareness about open government and freedom of information.

Not cool Xavier. No matter how screwed up this guy is, you are exposing his family to danger. You just sank to where he is. Normally you are a very moral man.
I am sorry to see this post.

At one time California made available the names and addresses of associated with license plate numbers. I believe it was published on the internet The rationale was that "It is public information". To say the least, the database was removed.

Yes, please make available the info on the CHP gunnappers. They are state officials, and it would be useful to know which overzelous, oath breaking idiots are running around in CA with a badge. Perhaps they can also be charged with some type of violation.

The really interesting lawsuits won't be from the people on that list who were found by the stalker they thought they had lost, but from the people who aren't on the list who are targetted because muggers figure they are defenseless.

Post them yourself.

Hey George...

Have you ever heard the phrase 'turn about is fair play'?

Check out Joe's place for another interesting comment...

George,

No, Christian Trejbal endangered himself when he decided to get cutesy with law abiding citizens. I pray that no fate falls upon him that does not fall upon anyone he endangered by his stupid decision.

I, for one, am happy to know where this guy lives so that I can write him a letter. No threats, no bombs, just a letter explaining that just because something is legal, doesn't make it prudent.

I dropped in to take a gander at X’s latest forays but was straightened right up by this post about the unjust and unwise article written by a “gun grabber” sympathizing writer. Lord have mercy, I truly hope this isn’t perpetrated in other corners of this country. The newspaper and the writer are receiving a blast from the citizenry that may just put a stop to this kind of tomfoolery!

There just may be some good that comes out of all this heartache that Mr. Trejbal has inflicted upon the legal gun owner, a paragraph from "The Liberty Sphere" , if it is okay to post it here:

===================================
“Now that Trejbal has opened this can of worms, the 'freedom of information' to know which citizens are carrying concealed handguns may be very short-lived. Legislators in the state of Virginia have asked the state Attorney-General for an opinion, which many observers say is a signal that the next legislative session may pass a law protecting the privacy of such information.”

The rest of his very decent article is at:
http://thelibertysphere.blogspot.com/2007/03/roanoke-times-will-not-re-post-list.html

===================================

We can always hope that this comes about and perhaps pass along our heartfelt, and hopefully not abusively written, feelings to the writer and newspaper that X was kind enough to post for us.

Thanks for keeping us informed X,

Ronaldo

I think I'll send him a respectful letter telling him what I think of him, and that is not anything good.

If he gets a few hundred thousand letters like that, he may think before pulling another ridiculous and irresponsible move like that again.

All the best,
Glenn B
