Ugly Stupid Gun Sunday

I went to Gun Broker, curious to see what was listed as their most expensive firearm. I found this pair of Colt 1908 .25ACP pocket pistols.
Colt manufactured one of the pistols in 1927, the year Walt Disney introduced Mickey Mouse. In 1981, Master Engraver for Colt, Alvin A. White was contracted to engrave the pistol which is a royal blue with a 2” silver-plated barrel and engraved it with full coverage scrollwork. Mr. White then embossed in 24K yellow gold Mickey Mouse handing a lily of the valley flower to Minnie Mouse on the right side of the slide. In addition, he added 24K inlaid gold on the Colt logos, calibre, serial number, model name and magazine. When the pistol was completed in 1982, he engraved his name “A.A. White, engr.” and “for John Colarusso” on the pistol just under the Mother-of-Pearl grips with deep-set medallions.

Colt manufactured the other pistol in 1924, just 10 years before Walt Disney introduced Donald Duck. In 1984, Master Engraver, Richard Roy completed engraving the pistol which celebrated Donald Duck’s 50th Anniversary. It is royal blue with a 2” silver-plated barrel and the right side of the slide features Donald opening his birthday gift from Daisy while sitting in a field with a background of trees. To the left are the dates “1934-1984” and to the right of the design is “Happy Birthday Donald”. It was done in 24K yellow embossed gold with full coverage scrollwork. In addition, Mr. Roy added 24K inlaid gold on Colt’s logos, serial number, calibre, magazine and model name. The initials JRC were applied in gold on the trigger guard. Richard Roy signed “Eng. by Richard Roy 1984 for John Colarusso” on the pistol just under the Mother-of-Pearl grips with deep-set medallions.
Both pistols are 100% blue and 99+% case colors! Also included with this cased two pistol set are the Colt factory letters, Engraver’s letters, two hard to find suede purse pouches and a collection of rare ORIGINAL Colt Model 1908 paperwork.
Now to be sure, these pistols are beautifully engraved. They are in exceptional condition with the original papers, and the combination makes them a unique package. Collectors of disney memorabilia may be interested, further increasing the market desirability. The starting bid of S25,000.00 is a little over the top though.

Sadly, the bizarre choice of comic character decoration take these pistols into the realm of drunken tattoos and box car grafitti. I guess one's a mouse gun and the other is a duck gun.

  7. 25ACP is available, but is nigh useless for self defense. Try poisoned darts instead. Quicker incapacitation.

.38 rimless is unavailable as far as I know.

I would avoid an AMT/Capsian mix. may be a decent enough gun, but I would want to shoot it first. I'd probably avoid it anyway.

Disney is anti-gun. Why did you engrave Mickey Mouse on a gun?

  9. Maybe that is why the guy who had the engraving done had it done in the first place, because Disney as an anti.

Regardless, I can say without a doubt, if I had the kind of money they are asking, I would not spend it on those pistols.

  10. These guns are stupid.

However, the basic 1908 .25acp vest pocket gun is cool.

    Silly caliber: check.

Lousy sight for my 53 yr old eyes: check.

    Colt: CHECK.

    Made in 1910: CHECK.

So I bought it. It still works.
