Government Model Box

I don't think I've ever seen a pre-war Colt Government Model box up for sale, but here's one on ebay.
This is an original prewar Colt 1911A1 Commercial, Government box. Also comes with orginal paper work! Box is very solid. Guaranteed Original! Will be shipped in hard plastic case......
Current bid: US $500.00 (Reserve not met)
Buy It Now for US $1,260.00

Good grief! It's a freakin' cardboard box!

Scarlett Johanson was on Jay Leno the other night and sneezed into a tissue; it is now for sale on Ebay and the last bid was over $3K.

There are a lot of people in the world with more money than good sense...

Y'know, who can say how much it's worth to a person with the desire and the money?

A Honus Wagner baseball card is made of a lot less cardboard than that...

Never underestimate the level of stupidity a "collector" can sink to. Heck, I've shelled out an extra hundred on a part for my MGB because it was NOS (New Old Stock) compared to the same part currently manufactured. It's nice to know I don't hold the monopoly on that kind of stupidity.

The people who are buying it are paying these bucks for a reason, Xav, and they are not being stupid.

The reason is Fraud.

The buyer will, no doubt, marry the box and paperwork with a pre-war m1911, and sell the combo for much more than he paid for the individual items.

This is exactly the same as people on military rifle forums swapping parts in order to get all matching last three or four digits on their arsenal refinished rifles ... fraud.

They are worth more with matching numbers, provided the buyer is fooled into thinking they came with the rifle in the first place.

Probably somebody faking up a "mint" condition piece... Seen the same thing with S&W boxes for "registered" Smiths.
