Colt Recall Update

On Tuesday of last week I filled out Colt's online request for a new Defender recoil assembly. I received the unit in a bubble wrapped plastic envelope today. Decently fast service.

I'm not wanting to send in the other two pistols for a thumb safety replacement under Colt's recall. I don't mind sending them in, it's just that I don't want to have to wait at the house to sign for the package when it returns. I can replace the New Agent thumb safety myself, if Hartford will just send a new recoil assembly my way for it as well. I will have to give them a call and see if they will. Doubtful, but you never know.........

edited on Saturday, 7-11-09: I used the website link and had a new recoil assembly for my Defender in two days.

I called Colt and spoke with a young lady about my New Agent. I explained that the thumb safety had already been replaced by a competent gunsmith (I did not say the competent gunsmith was myself....). Colt agreed to send me a new recoil assembly through the mail for the New Agent. Colt did ask that I ensure the recall thumb safety was destroyed. The second recoil assembly for the New Agent arrived today.

On my WWI Reproduction, I will order a new thumb safety from Colt, and pay for it myself, when they become available. That's my solution to the problem.

Colt Recall

Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC has determined that the Slide Lock Safety and the Recoil Spring Guide Pad in certain Colt model pistols were not manufactured to Colt specifications and must be replaced. All of these Colt models were sold after March 2007 and the range of serial numbers affected by this product recall is as follows:

It seems the thumb safties and the recoil guide rod pads are a bit soft.

Damn. My WWI Reproduction, my Defender and my New Agent all fall within that range.

Smith & Wesson I-Bolt Recall

Smith & Wesson has identified a condition that may exist with the bolt supplied with some rifles that would allow the striker to become disengaged from its locking tabs during cycling of the bolt, allowing the rifle to fire without the trigger being pulled. In the interest of consumer safety, we are initiating this recall to allow for the prompt inspection and, if necessary, the repair and replacement of each bolt.

This recall applies to the bolts of all i-Bolt rifles manufactured by Smith & Wesson prior to December 1, 2008.

Ruger® Issues Product Safety Warning and Recall Notice of LCP™ Pistol
October 29, 2008

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE-RGR) announces that it has recently received a small number of reports from the field indicating that LCP pistols can discharge when dropped onto a hard surface with a round in the chamber. Although no injuries have been reported, we are firmly committed to safety and will retrofit all older LCP pistols (described below). The retrofit involves installation of an upgraded hammer mechanism at no charge to the customer.
As a responsible manufacturer, we want to make our customers aware of this FREE safety upgrade. All LCP pistols bearing the prefix "370" (that is, serial number 370-xxxxx) may be affected. LCP owners can sign up for the safety upgrade or obtain additional information by:

The new parts are being built and we will retrofit LCP pistols on a first-come, first-served basis as soon as they are available. Ruger will install the new hammer mechanism, plus some other functional upgrades that have been added since the LCP's introduction, at no charge to the consumer and the pistol will be returned at Ruger expense. All owners will receive a FREE LCP magazine with the new finger grip extension as a "thank you" for their patience and cooperation.

SW1911 Recall

Smith & Wesson has launched a recall on SW1911 pistols with the serial numbers JRD0000 to JRD4750. The issue is the firing pin plunger in the slide. Follow the pdf file link or call 1-800-331-0852 for more information.

Electra Amsterdam Recall

Electra Amsterdams are being recalled. It seems the really cool chain guard is causing the chain to derail. Bad juju with a coaster brake.......
